The latest arm64 Vanadium browser APK is 325MB. It was previously downloaded as a 131MB gzip file created with zopfli. It's now downloaded as a 17MB update for users who were on one of the most recent 2 Vanadium releases. It's down to 95MB via Brotli for users on older versions without deltas.
@GrapheneOS great for my shitty internet. WELL DONE
@BenAveling @aparrish I don't even understand what that means?
You put text in, you get text out, based on learned weights from a mixture of pretraining on literature and heavy RL on all kind of things, and then you can do more or less useful things with the output to your input. No big difference here to the simplest logical regression.
For "fact"-checking, a common method is to use code. And of course there's benchmarks and the like.
@mnl @BenAveling you're right, it's no different from a regression. except if I use a regression model to predict X, I say that X is *probably* the case, not that X is factual. if my doctor takes my zip code and my weight and tells me I *probably* have diabetes, that's one thing, but if they use that same information to claim me that it's a *fact* that I have diabetes, they're a fraud
@HawkeyeCoffee They always did, I think, if you use iCloud Photo Library.
He was a true innovator.
@lowqualityfacts pretty sure parents had a pornograph player

@LilaHexe this changes everything
Going to bed early last night ended up being a good thing for the most part. Except that my daughter managed to set an alarm for 00:24, and I was having such nice dreams...
Today, I checked all the clocks and phones and tablets and everything, so my dreams should be safe now.
Time to head to bed then, I guess.
What Wore My Sister Home
Wife and I took the day off work, dropped our kids, 8yrs and 5yrs, off at school and took a trip to Alton Towers. Felt a little guilty but walked straight on to every ride with no wait and had a great day. Didn't tell the kids and we've already agreed to do it again next year.
The Mandarin Duck that's decided to make a celebrity guest appearance in the abandoned canal.
Bloomberg reported in August that TikTok is developing a feature that would allow users to send each other money via direct messages.
If rolled out, the feature would use the social media service’s TikTok Pay offering, which is already available in Southeast Asia for TikTok Shop purchases.
Additionally, Reuters reported in March that TikTok had applied to Brazil’s central bank for approval to operate as a financial technology company offering lending and payment services.
Are you the key master?
The arrests of peaceful protestors demonstrating against the proscription of Palestine Action continued in London today;
The problem is now that the Met. have decided Sarah Helm's post did not meet the criteria for police action, others are using that form of wording (although as pointed out previously the thresholds for on-line & public statements are different).
So, are the Police being 'over-zealous' of *just* doing the Govt.s bidding?

@anon_opin yeah but people look at you like you’re a weirdo if you just eat sugar cubes
@kolunmi Brave and Telegram pre-installed? What kind of bingo are they playing? 😅
@tautropfli @kolunmi IDK but they checked all the boxes and there are extra checks outside the boxes too.
I don't think I ever suggested ownership was the issue - but I can see how my phrasing might have implied that.
I was asking *if you were in charge* - you're the king, the decider, your will be done - what would you do? And specifically - would you impose that decision on others?
My take here is that the ills that arise from *any* technology - not just AIs - arise from human misuse.
Fire burns and kills people. But - to forbid it entirely would be bad. Chainsaws maim - but they're a powerful tool. And I suspect LLMs have a place. What we need is to stop the abuse.
@tbortels The technology itself is unethical and should not be used. I believe this, you do not. I don't see a direction for the discussion to go from here except in circles
Mist jetzt habe ich versehentlich "Lock out" statt "Log out" geklickt und komm nich mehr rein aaah /s
@Jomosoto in paar stunden ist der locktober vorbei
The latest version extends the cryptographic hashes to covering the compressed APKs and deltas to verify those prior to decompression. This means a compromised update server can't use the new Rust Brotli decompression library and Rust delta library as additional attack surface to exploit the client.

@Perrin42 @dnkboston @zzt @scream AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I hope we have enough treats, and no one tricks us!
@RickiTarr Wow, that's a lot of candy! Being in a small building we haven't done trick or treating at home ever. When my daughter was young we went with one of her friends at a big building that does Halloween.
In case people want to know how that's done. Most big buildings have people sign up by apt number and make a list so kids just knock on the doors that signed up.
