…No.

You don’t have to do that.

You could just focus on doing some core things well and the size of the customer base will be some function of the number of people who value that and can afford it, coupled with how big you want to get as a business before you realise that getting bigger unhinges you.

There is so much that is wrong in modernity where things are too big and/or too bloated.

Let’s stop repeating the same mistake. Also, #fuckAI

ORG's new report exposes the ‘near total secrecy’ of how AI being used across the UK immigration system.

“We urgently need transparency, accountability and strict regulation to restrict how AI is used and to prevent its wider rollout”.

Hi,

After getting forum.retrolemmy.com running with lemmyBB, I wondered if Retrofed could get something similar. Instead of getting lemmyBB (an ancient software for lemmy) to work through a proxy, we created a new frontend made natively for PieFed: PieBB. PieBB is more feature complete than lemmyBB and lighter on the server.

Note: This project was created with the help of an LLM.

It’s live at forum.retrofed.com, and makes PieFed look and work like an old phpBB2 forum. You log in with your normal Retrofed account. Posting, voting, polls, PMs, notifications and moderation all work, and you can even import (some) old phpBB2 themes.

If you notice any bugs, you can message me, or reply here.

If you want to use it yourself, it’s at Github. Tested on PieFed 1.8.x.

Known limitations:

• Register sends you to Retrofed’s own sign-up page.
• The index (Last Post, counts) can be a few minutes behind, to keep API calls down.
• Votes made on Retrofed itself can take up to 10 minutes to show in PieBB, due to a cache in PieFed.

I've been sleeping a lot more here in a bad way. It might be that I'd eventually gotten into the habit of drinking multiple big mugs of caffeinated tea every day, and I haven't adapted the habit to here, mostly out of increasing suspicion towards everything in the kitchen 😌

“hmm I advertised my company as anti-oil and got a bunch of Just Stop Oil protestors to sign up and recommend my services to their friends, and now they’re angry and protesting because I opened up just a small chain of gas stations. what’s their problem?”

OK, now we’re officially screwed.

If Cisco makes the roads that the Internet runs on, this is like funding a no-expense-spared moonshot project to scatter every single inch of tarmac on the planet with shiny stainless-steel caltrops.

@SteveInVentura @ai6yr
Yeah, that was the reasoning stated for the Dutch recommendations as well. Russia is very aggressively probing the EU for weaknesses lately, and will likely exploit those at some point.

Cyber/infrastructure attacks are pretty much guaranteed. More so with Trump now putting pressure on the EU to be nice to Putin, with the expectation of curtailing a European military reaction when there are attacks.

The biggest Dutch supermarket chain was taken down by a recent cyber attack. For a couple weeks they were operating like it was 1980 again, and it took several days before they could even manage that much (like get on the damned phone and call the distrubition center with a list of what a store needs to restock).

Something hitting every chain at the same time would be a massive clusterfuck. They aim to operate with no excess stock to maximize profits, so it's critical that everyone has their own stockpile when possible.

Techlore the youtuber?

Reminds me of the psychotic l*brewolf social media managers, who monitor each and every mention of their product and descend upon you like a fleet of pterodactyls, if you say something slightly nuanced.

Good point. ICE is a fly trap for these people. Which is scary, but also tactical advantageous as we know where to find them when it comes time for accountability.

@me_valentijn I thought the guy had stocked up on baby food, at first 😂

@ai6yr
Hak is a Dutch brand which cans food that is mostly grown locally. It's cheap and familiar, often on sale as well 😂

I also like that that glass jars avoid the problem with can liners disintegrating.

@ai6yr @uccawx @j_hearsay @CurtAdams 🙄

@aral I think is quite terrible that he has all the money, the money would be better allocated in the hands of everyone else

@jalefkowit The only way we see any real change in MSFT at the company level is if multiple countries completely divest of Windows.

Their market capture is, currently, too big to overcome their shitty decisions.

@publicvoit die Zeit ist gekommen. Es wird sich lohnen für den Kaffee. Die Stunden, die für die Reinigung und Entkalkung draufgehen, sollte man als Übung in Demut begreifen.
