@AbandonedAmerica Years back when travelling by car in the US I made a point of going off the highways and into the "backwoods" whenever possible. I often found myself driving through completely or almost completely abandoned towns where almost all the stores, banks, diners, etc. were shuttered and the surroundings were filled with mostly abandoned shacks and once-smart houses. But those places, with their poignancy, can't be adequately captured with photos (except maybe 360° photospheres).

IMHO two things are far more likely to be influential. Cherry-picked from a very recent survey to which roughly forty-seven percent of active developers responded:

1. more than one third of respondents simply do not want a formal, written policy (they prefer light guidance and best practices)

2. AI opponents are in a minority – the six percent mentioned in yesterday's post.

In this context, active developers are those who have committed at least once during the year ending September 2026.

@gargron I’ve been buying up knowledge books from the 70’s-90’s from charity shops. The big fat DIY compendiums are my favourites, as are the handcrafts books. (knife making for beginners, 1977).
