Is it just me or does anyone else get nervous when you read a book and you know there are still pages left to go but you already want to know what’s going to happen?
@nomdeb @mattsheffield Religions are cults. People are raised in them, so it becomes part of them. I’ve been around a few of them when they’ve had a crisis of faith. If it were proven that there was no god, there would be upheaval around the world. Folk either come to it on their own or just leave them be. They need it.
@CStamp @mattsheffield And not only do they have their own personal crisis of moving from belief in god to non belief in god, but also their whole world social structure - friends, family, colleagues, etc. who are very likely to be religious (at least on the outside) now are on the outside. Imagine growing up believing what your parents and community teaches you, and then having to disavow everything they've ever said.

@mdhughes The last 26 was pretty much perfect for me.
Apple has a lot of problems with the .0s.

This is what they’ll use to put down the protestors / resistance when the oligarchs drop all pretenses and go full authoritarian.

@rygorous@mastodon.gamedev.place @aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place @halcy@icosahedron.website @mcc@mastodon.social @moody@hj.9fs.net but all of this does feel like a bit of a side track to the original post.
A project adopting a "we don't accept LLM-assisted contributions" policy is signing up the maintainers to be the LLM police. Someone might send in an LLM assisted patch without being aware of said policy (which is arguably negligent, if it's findable; but isn't malicious). If the text around the patch is human written, and especially if the patch is small, it is entirely plausible you wouldn't notice.
What someone saying "its an unenforcible policy" is saying is, broadly, "I do not personally want to be making that sort of value judgement over other people's code" and "I do not want annoying consequences to befall me when I am an insufficiently good LLM detector for some people"

This is making excuses. You can put a check box in the PR submission form asking if they used LLMs.

@neil @iMeddles I'm using HAOS with a large number of Tasmota devices of various lineage. Never noticed this problem hit me.
I wonder what's different?
Oh, I wonder - I'm using a MQTT server on a different VM to HA (a legacy situation from my pre-HA days) which will mean the MQTT server remains always available to Tasmota devices during the HA restart.

@bremner I have this on my desk ( https://recurse.social/@shapr/106474918453895173 ) and it has ZERO notifications!
I know I have a video chat at 16:00 and that's all I really need to know.
Although I do have a night-time clock idea from long ago that I need to update and write a blog post about: https://github.com/shapr/HArdalarm
In short, when I wake up at night I don't want to find my glasses and look at my phone, I want to see dim red for "go back to sleep" or shading towards green for "yes, you can wake up now".

@sackofbones @reflex @lattera Is there a reason you are telling us this? It's obvious that projects use libraries and a project's policies may not re.
The way I see it, if you have a project that's committed to no-AI, and the language or the libraries become tainted, languages and libraries are "interfaces" which can be swapped out at a later time for clean ones. The important thing is the project commit to an intent; that gives you a "safe" zone you can stand in and clear out slop from there.
Also uutils (1) is command line, so i don't have to use it; I can make a functioning system without a command line prompt, and
(2) they forked uutils, I don't think they're still downstream; I was involved in writing docs for them and when I asked if I should describe the core command line tools as "from the uutils project" they were like "no not anymore"

Ouch! He talked about her ass and told her to stand up.
I couldn’t imagine that happened when I wrote that comment. I don’t envy the people that professionally make political jokes nowadays.

The president of the United States literally walked up to the podium and talked openly about Nikki Minaj’s ass. I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.
