@Canageek @WizardOfDocs But they also said that unless the job in question is an absolute dream job, they really can't recommend moving to the UK as a trans person right now. The transphobia over here is sadly high
@RexMagenta @WizardOfDocs That makes it hard: It is pretty close to my dream job and I'm getting depressed from being stuck as a lab tech when I have a PhD
On my cycle commute I pass a bus garage early morning. I take great pleasure in shouting as I pass "Get those buses out" in my best Blakey voice from On the Buses.
We are planning to release new Mastodon security updates for versions 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 and nightly this Thursday, Oct 29, at around 14:00 UTC.
It solves a critical severity security issue.
We encourage server administrators to plan for an update in the hours following the release to ensure their instance is protected. These versions will not require database migrations.

Ça semble puer ce truc ...
@woozle in this case, i don't think this is a difference between moderates and radicals, but rather a difference of approach
a social democrat (or even an authoritarian socialist) can believe very radical things on many issues, but still think that an existence of a state is necessary to get those things implemented, whereas an anarchist may have weaker beliefs on other issues, but support the idea of abolishing the state specifically
as i see it, the only thing is that an anarchist cooperating with the police would be inherently betraying their views in a way that a non-anarchist (whether they be a tankie, socdem, liberal or even fascist) won't, but that doesn't give them as a human being a 100% resistance to persuasion/blackmail/etc.
@rnd I may be thinking of a different meaning of "moderate" than the one you have in mind, then. I'm not really aware of any logically consistent political positions that could be called "centrist" in today's climate -- while in more normal times, that word would probably apply to me.
Ubuntu 26.10: small upgrade, but some interesting things!

Even With All That Mess
Bologna, 2003. A messy room, a graduation approaching, a FreeBSD Handbook gone missing. Twenty-three years later, I look back.

My girlfriend invited her virgin friend to watch us have sex. She sold it to me as a kinky experience. It was far from it. I've never been so self-aware in my life. She now keeps expecting me to thank her for letting it happen.
@fesshole so the friend just sat there and took notes, or?
@shinmera it might be people who bought it, randomly downloading it again?
@ArneBab Seems unlikely to have such a steady stream of those downloads every single day
Every OSS project maintainer I hear from is like "we can't ban AI because it's an unenforceable policy. There's literally no way of knowing whether something is written by AI" and every OSS project contributor I hear from is like "yeah, contributing is really miserable because I'm so busy reviewing this PRs and every single one is so obviously AI"
@mcc Ultimately an admin shouldn't care about AI, only code quality and manageable submissions both issues perfectly solvable. The fact that solving them also takes care of AI slop is just "free" bonus. Making the issue strictly about AI is the wrong way to go even if we agree that AI is definitely the main cause of the problem. If a human post code produced by an AI, you can tell the if code is bad but never that an AI wrote it with any certainty. Sloppy developers are not something new.
this girl is so male-brained
Economically, Fascism is defined by state control over private corporations. When Nazi Germany decided Schindler's kitchenware factory was now making pistols, that's the definition of fascism. When the CCP says your media company is going to push educational content to Chinese users but to export brain rot to other nations, or your tech toys factory must include this specific hidden firmware code for espionage, and report all user data to the government, that's fascism.
@RexMagenta @WizardOfDocs Thank you so much! That helps a lot

The names of the sirens change, but the sentiment remains.

@jalefkowit The answer to the second question is that a “euphemism” is a term that attempts to soften the impact of more blunt and perhaps unpleasant or stigmatized language.
I have decided that being creative in an age of AI slop is an act of resistance.
