@sleepy @Yewa Fairphones are white labelled devices made by an ODM. The current ODM since the Fairphone 4 is T2Mobile. Fairphone doesn't publish actual information on the working conditions, pay and environment impact of the assembly, manufacturing and supply chain for the devices. On their site, they provide a transparency report with a list of companies involved in making the devices. The information provided on each company is limited to the city they're based in and a website if available.
@sleepy @Yewa Fairphones do not last as long as an iPhone or Pixel due to starting out with past generation hardware and not providing proper updates for it. The newly launched devices have 1-2 months of delays for the incomplete Android Security Bulletin backports to older releases. There's a year or more of delay for the full updates requiring the new OS releases. Firmware and driver updates are shipped very late. Linux kernel patches are largely not provided and are cut off after 2-3 years.
I've been writing php and js for over 20 years, and its still fun.
shoutout to the people who still write code by hand. we exist. 💅

AI people absolutely have sexual predator vibes.
Dude. No means no.
Not ‘I’ll ask again later.
Not ‘Remind me again in the future’
Not ‘But this time it’s different’
No.
Just fucking go away.
@octothorpe "you gotta use a more powerful model, of course the free ones are shit, everyone knows that"
You, @fname, said that a picture I boosted was, in your opinion, "AI Slop."
I like my first post of the day to be a picture of flowers, and my last post of the day to be a picture of a sunset. At Twitter (now X) it is very easy to find many beautiful pictures of flowers and of sunsets. At #Mastodon it is often very difficult. Many people post truly ugly pictures, and the new @Mastodon search function is much worse than it was: it displays far too few pictures for a single search. #SocialMedia

going to the pharmacy will be difficult!
@jackie 💚
@Blerkotron Got myself a bag of Maoam today with the shopping. *correction* Got myself a "for sharing" empty bag with half a dozen sweets in the bottom of it.
@shivoa Everything's so tiny now. I saw a Snickers in the shop the other day and thought it was a "snack-size" one, but nope - they're just miniscule.

@neil My sharp zaurus 5500 was my favorite mobile device pretty much ever.
So great!
@Unlikelylass Wasn't it just! I still have one, but I have not used it in ages.
I have a strong need to disobey, so I often eat things labeled "Do not eat" or "Not for human consumption". Today I ironed something I was wearing because the iron manual said "Do not iron clothes while wearing them". Was careful not to burn myself though.
@fesshole do not sell all your belongings and definitely do not donate the proceedings to the poor
An #introduction seems in order, as a long-time lurker and more recent proprietor of a minimally active profile.
I'm a slow migrator from Facebook. I passed on the Site Formerly Known as Twitter so have no experience with hashtags, bear with me on that.
I live in a backwater college town in the southern US, and look forward to being able to move back to the Rocky Mountains. I enjoy #art and #photography, #baking, fostering rescue #cats, among other activities. Peace, y'all, talk soon.

thinking about the differences in outlooks between people which have been exposed by genAI, and i think one part may just come down to whether you intuitively use a labor theory of value to appraise and attribute works. i do, so i feel the scraping and mechanical abstraction of others' effort might be some form of plagiarism or theft. to others, though, it is the marginal utility gained by the appropriation of that effort which justifies apportioning rewards to those who do so
@sleepy @Yewa Fairphones are insecure devices unable to provide a reasonable level of privacy and security. They don't provide proper updates from day one and they get increasingly bad over the lifetime of the device. Fairphone 5 and earlier already have end-of-life kernels and it will happen for the Fairphone 6 too. They do not provide the kind of long term support the devices are marketed as having. The devices end up prematurely obsolete and need to be replaced early for privacy and security.
