I also avoid example code for things people may not be familiar with. For example, I always HATED having to learn about a sport in order to do my PROGRAMMING HOMEWORK.
Don't make me learn baseball to do programming homework. Grr!
@Moosader i dunno, in a way that's kinda "real world" though, first step in programming software to do something is always researching and defining exactly what the "something" is and breaking down the logic i'd need to interact with it, though maybe that crosses the line a bit between software engineering and programming and might be out of scope for a class on a programming language.
@felix Belonging definitely feels like an underappreciated value when it comes to some aspects of computing. I've written about a related topic (grounding) with respect to social media: https://destructured.net/groundedness-networked-community
For open-source software, if you are maintaining a successful project, moving fast and expecting others to keep up… you won’t be successful for long.

unless you looked at their profile on their home server, zero posts could have just been that posts don’t federate if nobody on your server had followed them before.
The levels of anxiety and stress and dread I've been feeling the past few days have been in such and extreme that I've been barely sleeping at all.
I need to go online and buy a bunch of stuff. Only way to try to feed the hole.
Bought a bunch of stuff for the cat the other day. It has arrived and I need to go assemble the new bed for her
. My precious.
A fun angle for Andor if it had kept going would've been the influence of Imperial defectors on the Rebellion. I think it would've been an interesting explanation for where the organized military aspects of the Rebels come from, and we already know so many big name Rebels who were defectors. Crix Madine, Kyle Katarn, technically even Han Solo.
Kind of imagining Crix Madine as the Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben of the Rebellion. Which also means he's gay, mark it down.
it is 2026, how is it that sqlite doesn't have a 128 bit integer type? This shit is killing me
@jenniferplusplus SQLite it on fire
@jwildeboer Although I agree 100%, these models AFAIUI are a product of distillation of the current frontier models, as it is at the moment.
Once we learn how to train more improved models without this ungodly power demand, then we’ll be in a good place.
@lasombra_br The current frontier models are themselves distillations of training data collected in suspicious, sometimes illegal ways too, so I don't see a problem here.
Is it too early to take a nap? 🤪
@ai6yr
It's always naptime somewhere 🤗
For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.
How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!

PieFed only adds those checkboxes (multiple times now) after huge complaints from users.
The dev is an authoritarian liberal who thinks the best way to run the Fediverse is their way and everyone must accept that.

Piefed dev for involved in a disagreement about something, made a post explaining how correct they were, and deleted responses from the b other parties involved.
I don’t remember the details but it’s not constructive to a healthy community.

People are upset when the find out the Lemmy lead devs are like straight up authoritarian communists.
Mostly Third-Way-Reddit-liberal refugees who don’t realize they’re not progressive just because Fox News calls thier party “radical socialist leftists” constantly, these are the same people screeching that America only votes for leftists for Senate some places because there wasn’t another choice and that what b the country really wanted was moderate Dems.
Also the Piefed devs; didn’t they get caught hardcoding a block list into Piefed or something? I know there was a lemmy front end that did that (Tesseract; I made the list yay!) but not long after that Piefed got caught doing something similar but I don’t recall exactly what it was; all I remember was that I decided I no longer trust Piefed and I won’t use it. Shit I’ll try and search it and see if I can come up with a better answer
