@hacks4pancakes Changes on Netflix would require the risk associated with the current administration to disappear. I don't see that right now.
But I hope/expect the negative trend to be stopped at minimum.
@masek Here's hoping. I miss a lot of shows!
I searched for "openbsd steam" on Google. The "AI" overview mentioned the recent Wine porting effort. You'd expect its source for that to be a respectable tech news site.
But nope. A random Instagram video.
How on earth am I supposed to keep @osnews alive in the future when sloppy search only opts for fucking shit like fucking Instagram as a source for technology news?
@thomholwerda
The fact it's suggesting Instagram as a "source" is absolutely absurd.
I'd suggest Marginalia Search, but it's pretty terrible for current events. Qwant, Mojeek, and noai.duckduckgo.com all work pretty well, and often give different results.
@osnews
i feel like people take a look at the biased coverage of certain issues in their news and think that there is no difference between that and the kind of propaganda people are told about in history classes
like, i get it, it is not a good thing that when some terrible incident happens, most news organizations take the statements of the police or their own military without further questioning
but y'all do understand there is still a big difference, right? when people talk about soviet or chinese propaganda, or the world-wars-era propaganda from everyone, including their side, it's not just "the government tells you how to report things", it's also "and if you report them a different way, you go to prison for subverting the war effort"
let's be honest, it would be unreasonable to entirely get rid of bias in media -- if journalists started harshly questioning every single source of information, nobody would want to tell them anything at all and less inquisitive sources would get the "first scoop" instead
and, of course, police departments and militaries, just like any other organization, want the people to sympathize with them -- it's not evil to try to tell "your side of the story", it's just how the world works, because nobody is omniscient and everyone's operating with a limited understanding of things
in fact, here's another hot take: the vast majority of people who work morally-questionable jobs don't wake up every morning and go "ah, i love being evil and killing/oppressing innocents" -- sometimes they're misled into thinking that the other side is more evil, sometimes they begrudgingly tolerate the job because that's how they feed their family, and so on
of course, we should appreciate investigative journalists who reveal important information and determine what's actually correct or not without being afraid to ruffle a few feathers, but saying that everyone who isn't that is automatically a propagandist is just absurd, because by that margin most news would be some form of propaganda

Showcase: Diablo (1996) remade in first person in Godot 4, with its original level generator ported to GDScript
Hi Godot folks, Danny here from the Diablo 3D team. We’ve rebuilt Tristram and the first Cathedral level of the original Diablo as a first-person game in Godot 4, and the free demo is out.
A few Godot notes:
What’s in the demo:
It’s free for Windows (1.83 GB, Vulkan GPU with 6 GB+ VRAM). Download and screenshots: diablo3d.com
Happy to answer questions about any of it. Feedback on performance is especially welcome.

Fediverse
Hi from normals.me. If you can read this, the federation works
This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.
Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).
What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.
Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.
Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.
Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.
Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.
If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.
I hope we all have fun. Cheers!

To what extent is this project AI-assisted/generated?
What’s the plan for the full release? Will it be open-source?
@gramian Thanks for the heads up.
They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.
@masek Yes, but no. I'm talking about the anti "Woke" movement that lead to tons of shows being shut down by conservative network heads.

Here's the very first thing I learned at my very first guitar lesson. A 6/8 finger picking pattern pimami. You can play with an E minor chord to really focus on the picking hand and then start playing it with other chords. #music #guitarpractice #learnguitar

@Techaltar Wow. I'd heard about this a while ago, but it completely slipped my mind. By the way, which Soundcore Liberty earbuds are you using? And besides the EQ adjustments, are there any other features locked behind the app? Also, do you have any recommendations for earbuds for office use?
@Nursery811 I'm sponsored by them, so quite a few, haha. These are the Liberty 5 Pro and Pro Max. I basically never use the app, except to find the buds occasionally. You can use it for a hearing test, customized EQ and some AI stuff.
As for recommendations, I like these, but I also haven't reviewed many buds, so I can't quite say objectively
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
