If you're in line to ride the limu emu stay in line
If you pump liquid oxygen and RP-1 into a 2004 Honda Civic, you do not get a Civic that wins the Daytona 500. You get a very brief, very exciting thermodynamic event that melts the engine block and scatters the transmission // driver across three lanes of traffic...
@Daojoan I’m so old I remember bootstrapping.
It's November why is Discord still playing the "spooky" October alert sounds that don't sound remotely spooky or halloweeny and just sound like your headphone jack is slightly deseated in the plug
@mcc It’s really weird seeing it still has the startup thing too. I think they just forgot to turn it off?
If the White House smells like pee-soaked underwear — more than usual anyway — it's because investigation season is about to begin.
Here's why I think it will matter this time more than it did in the first term.
Prosecutions are possible.

@lightweight Much as it pains me to say this, one reason Big Tech is news is because that is what readers click on.
It used to be all about editorial judgement and experience, but today's online media (and more to the point online advertising) is all about eyeballs. We now know what readers want to read. We no longer have the luxury of choosing the stories we think they should be seeing.
There will be exceptions, but in general, the ratio of reader interest in, say, stories goings on at a big tech firm and something about open source is an order of magnitude or greater.
@billbennett yup. I think that's mostly a chicken and egg issue. We need a bold, charismatic chicken. The stories are compelling (I've had a 100+ reactions/responses to this thread so far). Cory Doctorow's made a pretty solid career for himself telling fictionalised versions of them - try Picks and Shovels for example - they're all also CC licensed, so you could download them, but the library's probably easier.
Who are they?
@suetanvil rival band, Mordenshadows: "and what do they want?" [venue brawl breaks out]
@jaredwhite nervously optimistic in Texas.
@josh many eyes on Texas right now, for sure!

community of 600 Navajos can't get to polls due to flood damage knocking roads out
It looks like the best option is to walk 17 miles across the desert to another town
I feel the pain of a colleague in another print shop - a trolley jack used behind the machine cut some cables, including the data connection to the printer - a pair of long HDMI cables.
New IT guy came, went, and closed the ticket 'cos it's only got one monitor and it's up and working already.
Then when told it's the HDMI cables from the controller to the press not the monitor, he supplied... a pair of USB A to USB B cables.
(and yes, that printer needs a pair of HDMI cables for print data)
@NanoRaptor *flops next to you*
Needing to desperately scratch an anime itch, I've returned to #Funimation (#Crunchyroll) to try to find something in English that's well done and not entirely misogynistic to watch. What I've found is middle-aged shopper in another world Isakai and it's basically "Hey, what if we turned the home shopping network into an anime?"
I know it's something to do with contracts, but what the fuck did Funimation do to lose all the English dubs when they bought Crunchyroll?
i dont like that the Intro/Outro gives away every major story event as a spoiler
@ChrisPirillo So you're just a bot generating AI content (and poorly at that) every few minutes?
@plaidtron3000 close
@ai6yr Snort. :)
@joachim désapprendre ? 🤷

Oh hey look what Nexus Mods just did.
"One of the most consistent concerns we’ve heard is that it’s not clearly disclosed when AI has been used to create a mod. We already have tags for AI-generated and AI-assisted mods, but we recognise that there’s a lot more we can do to make that information more accessible and clear for you all. As of today, we're making AI disclosure mandatory when uploading a new mod, meaning Mod Authors will need to declare whether AI has been used in their work. All existing mods will have one of two popups: a persistent one when editing a mod in the upload form, and a dismissible one on the “My Mods” page.
What this means is that for mods tagged as AI-assisted, we’re also introducing a requirement for a public explanation of how and where AI was used, which should give you a better understanding of what you’re downloading, rather than leaving you to make assumptions on a tag alone. We’re also going to make AI tags on mod pages more prominent, displaying them immediately after adult-content tags so they’re easier to spot.
While we hope these changes will encourage everyone to disclose their AI usage, to be honest, that’s not going to happen. Additionally, we are putting clear moderation standards in place, enforced with consequences for breaking the rules. You can read more about our plans regarding this later in this post."
