In case you missed it: Announcing Bonfire for communities: groups and tools to organise together
We're shifting our centre of gravity: from social features to community tools.
Bonfire was never meant to be one more feed that grabs your attention. Today it takes the shape we've been building toward: Bonfire for communities. A tool for groups that need to organise together, not just post at each other. Shipping today: groups and topics, events, shared organisation profiles, embeddable federated comments, customisable themes, and a first set of governance tools. It comes as a ready-to-use space with everything included, to then be reshaped block by block: add what's missing, swap or fork what almost fits, switch off what you don't need.

The German govt is rolling out a digital driver's license:
https://www.heise.de/news/Digitaler-Fuehrerschein-kommt-Ende-November-11509430.html
And, from day 1 - in 2026, yes - it only works on OS images allowlisted by two American companies, Google and Apple. Sanctioned by the US government, like e.g. the ICC judges? Can't use your _German_ digital driver's license.
In any sane society this would have been flagged as a massive issue and have simply stopped the app from launching in the first place.
@heidilifeldman
Why that one in particular?
@kims Colum’s opponent blocked him from appointment to federal judiciary, for antisemitic and anti-trans b.s. reasons. If elected, he’d be Mississippi’s first African-American Senator since Reconstruction. https://www.cnn.com/2026/03/10/politics/cindy-hyde-smith-scott-colom-missisippi-senate-race

All my websites are static sites generated by hugo. They use PHP only for the comments and no Javascript. I do store a cookie so it remembers your name when commenting.
I don't know if they're trying to save on toilet paper at home, or they don't have access to adequate facilities otherwise, but ffs why must everyone in the county always come to take a shit at retail stores on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays?
It's not just this location either. Every store I've worked at (and that number is shamefully high) had this issue. Obviously there's a much greater influx of people on the weekends but dear lord why doesn't anyone go to the bathroom *before* going shopping?
I'm what you might call "poo shy", so I don't really understand it. I personally have *never* felt comfortable crapping in public. I've avoided it whenever possible since at least grade school. I would basically just.. hold it unless it became too uncomfortable for me to stand anymore.
I've worked at this job for almost four years. I can count the number of times I have pooped at work on one hand.
My former spouse suffers from ulcerative colitis, so I understand that sometimes you just don't have a choice and I sympathize.
But if you *do* have a choice, I *beg* you -- on behalf of all the other absurdly weak-stomached people working mind-numbing, entry level retail jobs just like myself-- to plan accordingly when getting ready for a fun weekend outing for the entire family.
So.. in closing, let me gently ask you to please, PLEASE try to take a shit BEFORE you go shopping. And for the love of all that is holy, please try to get your children to do the same.
@mm lol my brother in the law doesn’t understand this phenomenon either. Poor him has a sister and now son who must poop once they arrive at their destination. It’s a joke that his sister goes to walmart when constipated.
Me? I am at home unless it’s an emergency
I didn't mean to become a soft person. I've always been "oops, all knives." But in an era where everyone's hurt and everything's sharp... I want to be moss. I want to be a soft place to land, that breaths out air, and can hold fast until the rains come to burst forth again.
QUESTION: *Outside* of Mastodon, where do you prefer to get your news / updates about open source projects and Linux distros that you are interested in?

A techbrosi mają to w dupie. Inwestorzy przywożą im miliardy taczkami.
Jeśli ten śmieciowy ruch będzie przyrastał w takim tempie jak obecnie, zostanie nam stworzenie internetu "białych list". Wycięcie serwerowni GAFAM z dostępu. Albo zajęcie się czymś innym niż technologia...
