Almost everywhere on Earth is better than Mars.

"I'll believe in people settling Mars at about the same time I see people setting the Gobi Desert. The Gobi Desert is about a thousand times as hospitable as Mars and five hundred times cheaper and easier to reach. Nobody ever writes "Gobi Desert Opera" because, well, it's just kind of plonkingly obvious that there's no good reason to go there and live. It's ugly, it's inhospitable and there's no way to make it pay. Mars is just the same, really. We just romanticize it because it's so hard to reach."
@cuirass_entertainment @bart https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-probes-toronto-shooter-for-hire-impenetrable-phone-graphene-os/ is a very fair and balanced article. They did proper research and talked to experts.
That's entirely unlike nearly all of the coverage by the media in Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands. In the few cases we were asked for our perspective, nearly nothing we said was included. They acted as sycophants for the state and did not challenge or verify their claims.
The Toronto police also didn't lie about what was happening as they have.
buahaha I now own subgenius.eu!
@thomas_klopf how do you say EMPTY YER FUCKIN' WALLET PRONTO in Basque?
@ai6yr WOW! Can I haz a copy of your playlist?... that's impressive !
@silver_buttercat LOL it's ever evolving (again).... based on what random record or CD I run across. (this all kicked off in the last few months because a friend was moving and selling stuff, and he had some records, and I bought a Kraftwerk LP from him, and needed a turntable to play it... and then another radio friend gave me a turntable I fixed.. and then someone around here had a non-working disassembled Harmon Kardon stereo... lol. I'm like "squirrel!"

Working on a new version of the benchmark that's a bit more heavyweight and SPA-flavored, with a few more frameworks based on feedback. Feeling pretty energized and inspired; it's nice to be doing benchmarks again. I was getting a bit tired of writing opinion pieces. 😅

I'm sorry to be cantankerous about this, but I strongly disagree with the assertion that there is no way to use "AI" (LLMs) ethically.
I've been trying not to talk about this until I had all my ducks in a row, but... that statement crossed some line for me, and I felt compelled to push back (in whatever small way this side-toot constitutes pushback).
@woozle where do you feel this ethical boundary is?

My nonprofit's #ActuallyAutistic website https://prepped.to seeks to "disrupt" if you will the location reviewing industry by providing a totally free and ad-free platform for sharing and reading location reviews by and for autistic folks, with sensory information, service instructions, and important info such as the toilet situation.
Check it out and spread the word 🙏🏻
So far the only thing I managed to disrupt was my own cash flow, but hey, hope dies last
Altman has got a possible point about about efficiency. There are so many of us humans it might be that the most efficient way to spread minimum viable product to the largest possible number is with mass production. McDonald's can make the same point about kitchens and fuel for cooking as Altman makes about RAM. Consider that McDonald's recycles their grease much more efficiently than 100 million small-scale amateur cooks ever could. However, with McDonald's, for example, we have a good idea that the minimum viable product is possibly as deadly as it is 'viable', and that a diverse selection of less capital-intensive predecessor products is likely a superior choice. In laissez-faire jurisdictions, we rely on competitive markets and their invisible hand to make that choice, but laissez-faire jurisdictions have an awful lot of trouble maintaining competitive markets.
Free-market economic arguments about optimal this or that
that focus on improving things for captive customers and/or captive workers will never ring true until market power is effectively regulated more wisely.
