can i start listening to christmas music at midnight tonight, or should i wait until tomorrow morning after i’ve slept?
@dcdeejay Good thing the standard is no longer to tuck the shirt or you’d really suffer 😆
@stephaniepixie 🙏🏾😂
@davidgerard @mawhrin @hipsterelectron @agturcz the changeover happened for me after I refreshed the page after there was a discussion about how we needed to accept a security update. I'm curious as to why it came with an obligatory UI change though
@somebody @mawhrin @hipsterelectron @agturcz the masto 5 UI which is visible if you go to anything on mastodon.social
it's uh purple squircles
An old 1800’s cemetery deep in the woods. One of those where the names on the headstones are the names on all the local roads.

Every Friday I publish the links that caught my attention at the intersection of technology, journalism, and democracy. Here's this week's list: AI is building detailed profiles about us, Proton is melting down, solar continues to grow, and more. https://werd.io/notable-links-october-30-2026/
@davidgerard can’t annoyingly recommend linux, can’t shout about libreoffice
@zzt i recommend netbsd, an OS that doesn't work on your hardware is probably better for you really
they should make fun size versions of canned goods that you can give to trick or treaters. imagine knocking on a door & they hand you a tiny can of green beans
I guessed wrong today. The threatened morning rain wasn't materializing and the radar was spotty, so I went out for a ride anyway. Of course the rain finally popped up and I turned toward home sooner than planned. By the end it was raining and I was getting wet. Then shortly after I got home, blue sky started to appear. In any case I did get an 18 mile ride in, doing most of the Chester loop.

Nancy Pelosii showing up to help Republicans defeat Abdul El-Sayid just before the elections is a plot twist I wasn’t expecting.
@carnage4life really time for her to go…
When walking through the train every other screen is just some Chatbot. It feels like most corporate knowledge work is just slop by now.
@tante why would you expect humans to work on Saturday?
Come on, it’s weekend!
My parents got their Covid shot this morning.
My mom only gets it because I practically begged her to keep getting it every year.
My dad only gets it if my mom brings him along.
They don’t even get any negative side effects like I do.
This year for whatever reason my dad declared he wouldn’t get the shot.
He is notorious for being contrary just because. Like a pouty toddler who just wants to say no.
You know what convinced him to get it?
My mom told him about the research she read that it can help ward off Alzheimer’s. His mother had Alzheimer’s so he’s seen first-hand what that looks like and he doesn’t want to experience it.
So if you know an elder who needs some selfish reason to get the Covid vaccine, that might convince them.
Had a wee walk by The Kelpies last week. It's been a while since I've seen them on foot, and they really are fab. Was in the vicinity doing other stuff, so couldn't pick a day with good weather, but still impressive beasts.
