@scott @autolycos @MsMerope When my mother died we had donations to World Central Kitchen instead of flowers requested, among one of the groups. I have seen that group end up in the middle of disaster zones on the brink of people ABSOLUTELY LOSING IT, and they start serving hot meals and coffee and drinks and suddenly, civilization has returned!!! (In particular, monitored this for Hurricane Dorian... they actually helicoptered in with hot food to a shelter which was about to go ballistic and have people start fighting for the last water/food... and all was well).

@autolycos @MsMerope @ai6yr People get cranky over nearly any kind of scarcity - I fondly remember a near-altercation over who ate the last crumpet after 10 days in the bush. You couldn't even trade bacon for that last crumpet to make it up, apparently.

(I mean, how was I to know there was a two crumpet limit....I ended up on dish duty for the last four nights of the trip as recompense lol)

The annual utah shake out exercise usually includes random freeway overpasses collapsed. And there are chokepoints around Willard Bay, Point-of-the-mountain, and out by Stansbury Park on I-80 where there are very limited alternate routes.

@ai6yr @GhostOnTheHalfShell I prep for traffic accident, gunshot wounds, burns, and fall/crush damage. You have to consider what your actual risks are, and have what you need to deal with that. The most likely disaster scenario in the US isn't really earthquake, it's flood and fire.

@Migueldeicaza that’s a shame, but I understand. I’m still disappointed in the way that some of the Swift stdlib and language features are gated behind the absolute latest OS versions.
