@neauoire This looks useful enough that I wrote a little barcode generator for ilo.
@mcc I mean, isn’t that the principe of VC funding already? And it’s the biggest factor of economic growth right now 😬.
@Sylvhem Yes. That is what I am describing. The VC economy becoming the only economy.
Is that Madonna?
See! I told you it was Madonna.
If you'd like to keep track of applications in the FreeBSD ports tree, take a
look at FreshPorts;
Wow.
@miki_lou In my part of the world (Eastern), we are UTC-4 in summer and UTC-5 in winter.
I don't much care which one they pick, it's the twice yearly shifting that drives me crazy.
Also, I think speaking of daylight savings vs. "standard" time is confusing to a lot of people. The actual issue is about what the time is in relation to UTC and what is the appropriate place to set the time.
@leftylabourtech Standard time is what the science says, what human bodies respond to, and what makes sense here North of 60.
@ben
i didn't register it as a (non-rhetorical) question. yes you should go eat breakfast
okay it looks like my at-home server is constantly sending around 40Mbps to my linode over tailscale, and I'm having trouble figuring out where the traffic is coming from. iptraf and iftop tell me that the data transfer is happening but can't tell me which processes are involved.
Anyone have any ideas?
Are you celebrating Halloween this year?
@evan I celebrated it in that I handed out candy on Thursday (Columbus doesn't schedule "Beggar's Night" on a Friday-Sunday, so we had it on Thursday).

I’ve never heard of catodon before, but I love the name and the logo.

(As the prices of rent and food go up, and the "% of wealth" numbers start to look stranger [1% of the population owns 50% of the wealth, that sort of thing], if trends continue unbounded eventually you hit a point where the *only* way to get money to live is to do something that makes an already-wealthy person happy. More and more industries change from making products to sell, over to some sort of "storytime" where a billionaire is delighted by the way you dance and gives you "investment".)

Canada and the European Union give themselves a deadline of June 2027 to conclude negotiations to make Canada the first “associate member” of the bloc. The scale and substance of the agreement have yet to be determined, but Germany is already opposing the plan. Read more from @euronews
@mcc Purely an anecdotal thought and not backed by evidence:
I feel like projects that have to be compiled from source are generally much smaller and lower effort, as it seems ones with sufficient effort and funding usually package their projects.
I wonder if people making these smaller projects don't have the time, don't have the experience, or don't want to put in the effort for proper documentation.
These days this is of course being made much worse by slopcoding...
@shad0wdragon i think the fact that there are projects which are "open source", but which have hard incorporated the idea of "people do not build our project from source" into their user model, is a sign of a bad problem
