What makes software engineering so challenging - more often than not - is people.
I've worked with a bunch of technically very capable devs who routinely failed because they couldn't do the people part.
You can't learn to do it on your own.
@lritter I wrote this elsewhere as well, but if people are already having unhealthy relationships with their chatbots they will absolutely fall in literal love with this.
@SonnyBonds can't wait to get scammed on the phone
From Fort William I ride (and hike) to Loch Ossian / Corrour Station where I stay at a pretty interesting Youth Hostel. It's sort of a big bothy with electricity. One has to take their own trash. The night gets so cold that I get my freehub frozen, and "have to" enjoy a long breakfast in the Corrour Station House.
From there I ride to Pitlochry, where I finally take the train + ferry back home.

I'm still glowing from Jason's toot!
I enjoy taking my handheld radio frequency jammer to the psychic clairvoyancy events my wife drags me to. The panic on the "psychic's" face when their assistant looking everyone up on social media behind the scenes gets replaced with static in their ear is brilliant.
@fesshole Chinny reckon, but I love the idea.

my mate, who is a low level embedded systems programmer just came into my room: "i didn't even know #php was still a thing." 😂
@kali truly a sweet summer child 🌸
My GF's meat sausage rolls got mixed with my vegan sausage rolls. Offered them to the dog thinking he'll eat the meat ones and not the vegan ones. Greedy Labrador bastard ate all 12 of them.
@fesshole A Labrador as in the breed with a reputation for scoffing absolutely everything?
When you need to multiply 7*8 do you simply have it memorized, or do you need to add, subtract or otherwise connect it to another math fact that you know better?
That is do you simply think "56" or are there more thoughts that lead to 56?
@futurebird
I do 7x7 +8, so I voted via other math
Block, the payments firm formerly known as Square, has released Dessa, a speech-to-speech AI model trained from scratch on nothing but human conversation. It handles audio directly instead of transcribing to text, so it can listen and speak at the same time, giving replies a more natural cadence and fewer of the robotic pauses common in voice assistants. Block says it runs locally on a MacBook Pro M4 Max and that a small group of AI safety researchers already have early access. https://gizmodo.com/check-out-the-many-uncanny-human-ish-voices-from-blocks-new-ai-model-2000830237 #AI #GenAI #AIresearch

I'm watching a series, there's a guy called Claude in it. He's insufferable and completely useless.
Where have I've seen those traits...
(Between my faceblindness and my obliviousness to most mainstream culture, it escaped me completely, but I’m told that some of these “ordinary Brits” are well-beloved, household name-level celebrities.)
What really struck me as a failure about the film is that it pulls out all the stops in an effort to convince its audience that climate-system collapse is a real and present danger — and you know I think this is both entirely appropriate and well overdue — but gives people absolutely no clue what to do with that information.
No preparedness advice is offered, nor any sources thereof pointed to. No attempt is made to connect structural causative factors to their baleful consequences. The single explicit call to action in the film involves petitioning the prime minister to make a televised, nationwide, prime-time address about the crisis, like it was 1973 or something.
It was good at putting The Fear in people, but in an avowedly “apolitical,” infantilizing way. Pointless, infuriating.
