I mean, we have some in the past, in the Victorian era, the UK invented the idea of Council Houses, houses given to those who earn less than a certain amount of money per year, which you live in until you reach a threshold of earnings that you have to move out

They built over 2 million of them in 1880-1950

Target fixation. They tried too hard to avoid it and ended up smashing into it head first.

It’s like they come almost parallel with self awareness then panic and intentionally jackknife in to a tree. To own the libs or something.

Kids can easily believe and accept anything, even that a boy can transform into a dragon; that so-called adults instead can't is astounding.

@thomholwerda GNOME would really benefit from a dock like that

This is how it went with my autistic toddler. He’s always known his brother as his brother, but he didn’t start transitioning until 2 months ago. We just told him big brother is a boy on the inside and soon he’ll match on the outside. Kid went “oh, ok” and went back to playing. It’s not complicated, it’s their hatred that makes it complicated for them.

Short-term harm reduction is not worth long-term harm multiplication. We cannot actually reduce harm by voting for politicians who will refuse to prevent the next republican from being even more fascist than this one.

Democrats will win future elections, as will republicans. If we signal to the democrats that we’ll vote for them no matter what, we only encourage them to try to appeal to republican voters.

@tamazon And iirc he is married too?

So much yuck.

Der Preis für das dümmste KI-generierte „Foto“ geht heute definitiv an die Gemeinde Niedermohr.

Das Kaff liegt irgendwo in Rheinland-Pfalz zwischen Kusel und Ramstein.

🚨 PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT

The location for Hacker Beach in January 2027 is now official: we're going to gather on the southern coast of Sri Lanka!

Detailed announcement and more precise location following soon. However, you can already book your flights to CMB:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandaranaike_International_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations

From there, you can take the train, or a little Cessna water plane for the final leg.

By the way, this part of the eMudhra story doesn't get the attention it deserves: Google hired Daniel Bleichenbacher, he wrote a tool to identify insecure cryptographic artifacts, and Google did not use it regularly to check certificates and intermediates trusted by Chrome's root store.

@davidgerard yeah, I do remember. That was where I started to realise he’d swallowed the hype. It’s very frustrating he’s painting himself as this neutral bystander when he’s anything but.

People who produce large documents with LLMs seem to frequently be under the impression that the recipient would like to receive a large document

They are pretty much always wrong
