Let’s not forget that before one wage was enough for a family of four a car and a house.
Today a single wage gets you a room in a shared apartment.
Total honest question to my dear Fedi friends, I need a genuine answer, please do not sugarcoat things. I need Dutch bluntness here!
So you have been following #MySoCalledSudoLife adventures for almost two years now.
I'm not sure how to define myself anymore because I'm not an expert at this stuff, but I am no longer a newbie either. Yesterday I updated all my systems using CLI (in tmux)!
Now, my main point after my long preamble:
I want to create custom apparel for the next #FOSDEM, as an act of rebellion against the rejection for our proposal of a DEIB room.
I used to make sweatshirts and t-shirts to promote the visibility of women in film, like: "this is what a film director looks like" or just t-shirts that read "film director". I gifted them to prominent women in film, who LOVED them and wore them on set!
I'd like to do something similar but for FOSDEM / tech.
Is it too much to say: "this is what a sysadmin looks like"? Can I call myself a sysadmin, or would you find it sacrilegious?
Anything else? Like, other suggestions along the lines of "this is what a ----- looks like" or "sysadmin"?
Thanks! 🙏

The OReagan trail
Heh, seems like background radiation of the web kept being the same for PHP scanners (Note: I don't have PHP stuff, so it's purely scanners).

The pie grows when you’re more productive. Are you more productive when you work 60 hours per week, as opposed to say 35 hours per week? I highly doubt it, at least on average across industries.

I mean, we have some in the past, in the Victorian era, the UK invented the idea of Council Houses, houses given to those who earn less than a certain amount of money per year, which you live in until you reach a threshold of earnings that you have to move out
They built over 2 million of them in 1880-1950
@angelalluna fa uns quants dies que hi ha un degoteig de comptes d’aquests tipus
@spla
Sí! És com això!!! 😮

@milan
Oh huh, the guy who broke the embargo for the latest major PHP CVE has started posting about shitcoins and even a pump.fun link.
Guess this was all just part of a crypto scheme, then! Fun (/s).

It’s frustrating how there’s no way to say “anything people need should be provided free or at-cost” without sounding like a loony radical, but it’s true.
If businesses could figure out how to make you pay for the air you breathe, it would come in a variety of qualities and flavours, and I would have been banned from r/air long ago.
The profit incentive can barely even be trusted with stuff we don’t need. Never let necessities turn a profit.

Go for it. Otherwise, by doing nothing you’re failing to support harm reduction.

Re-read the part about the cyclical nature of elections vs the one-off nature or the choice in the Trolley Problem.
Elections in a fucked up anti-Democratic power-duopoly electoral system like the one in the US are a lot more like a Cyclical Ultimatum Game between voters and the party supposedly closest to their own principles and very little like a Trolley Problem. A “punish now to get a better choice offered in a later round” strategy is not only viable but often the best choice in a Cyclical Ultimatum Game, i.e. when the side that has to accept or reject the candidate put forward is offered a bad one and they know they will play the same role (i.e. vote) in later rounds, but it is not at all a valid or even possible strategy in a Trolley Problem.
The relentless insistence in framing it as a Trolley Problem and thus as a unique once-in-a-lifetime choice which will result in a forever the same outcome that cannot be changed (yet another way it differs from a Trolley Problem - you can change the choice every 4 years), rather than a situation were punishing those choosing the available candidates in one round can change which candidates they put forward in the next round, is a self-serving piece of propaganda from politicians who don’t want voters to punish them for always making available only bad candidates.
You fundamentally don’t understand what elections are, like, on principal
