FPTP sucks, for sure. We need some form of ranked choice voting, also for sure.
But claiming people like me who do not register with a political party because we’re not politicians are “too insignificant” is misguided.

@hyc Ah, yes! This is where community comes in.
Do you know any writers? Do you want to know writers? I dunno where you are, but thankfully for Scripts at least it doesn't really matter.
@ajroach42 @hyc Can confirm, I am a writer! We’re out here! We like to write things!
Had the best birthday weekend 😊 I mean how can you not when you get to sing Sweet Transvestite at drag queen karaoke at the awesome The George LGBTQ nightclub in Dublin?

I fear we might lose you to the stage 😂

This is another introspective and insightful long read from Bjarnason that touches on a lot of things I've wrestled with, but he unpacks it all better than I could (and in my preferred medium).
He also riffs on "seminal" — a word I rarely use in any context, but I will never be able to see or hear it without smelling it again! 😅😵

Idiotic and myopic opinion, for a number of reasons, but the biggest is calling open source maintainers "gatekeepers" while somehow thinking that spending money on tokens from basically two multi-billion dollar losing companies is somehow liberating. Those are the gatekeepers. And they will come for their toll.
If you think this is liberating you're a fool, at best.
The thread had fun with it. One commenter said "i'm open to the idea that its the NYTimes that needs a HN inspired version." Another asked, "What about the ads, the tracking, the pop-ups and the limited-time special offers?" And one said the layout "breaks the links up in a useful way," which is the part I'd actually miss if it went away.
It's not the first try at this, either. An older project on GitHub, paper-hn, calls itself a "Hacker News front page in the style of a print newspaper."
The idea keeps coming back because it works.
If you read Hacker News every morning anyway, I'd give this a week as your homepage. The biggest story gets the biggest headline, and a newspaper page shows you everything at once, which a list never quite does.
Coffee not included.
The lead is the story with the "highest total points on the current first Hacker News page," and the "other stories come from a bounded sample of the past 30 days," so a good thread from last week gets a second shot at page one. The masthead is "set in Manufacturing Consent," a font name that's a joke all by itself.
The person who built it, polpenn, explained it on Hacker News: "I thought it would be fun to browse HN as if it were a newspaper. The site updates once an hour."

Damn that's a good feeling.
Big thanks to the @gnome folks for making the setup such a breeze in @fedora - and to the @Krita folks for producing such an awesome tool for artists. And finally @davidrevoy that guided her through the basics of Krita. She's so happy.
Shouldn’t the stories say Jensen Huang and Alice Huang, no relation, …?
LOL
@scy Gen X: Worked hard, never trusted we’d actually be rewarded.
Pourquoi as-tu mis en rouge cette proposition ?
Cela semble aller dans la lignée de la Loi Lemaire non ?
