Discovery of activity on Main Belt #Asteroid 6993 (1995 BJ4): https://arxiv.org/abs/2610.31910 -> "Activity on this outer-main belt object is likely not primarily driven by rotational instability, but rather is consistent with an impact event or sublimation based on several arguments. If this activity is sublimation driven, 6993 would be the largest known main belt comet (11.85 km), with the largest perihelion distance (2.853 au) and an unusually high geometric albedo of 0.166 ± 0.030." This picture of the asteroid's newly formed tail by Michael Jäger & Gerald Rhemann with a 16-inch telescope - https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=2600580800458736 - is from yesterday!

can we shout out to the fediverse developers, for making the fediverse possible
shout out to the lemmy developers for not making us be stuck on the other site
shout out to mastodon devs for making us have a better life than on Twitter
shout out to the pixelfed devs for allowing a actual photography platform to exist
shout out to the peertube devs for helping us not be stuck on youtube until the end of time
ETA: Shout out to the server operators who make the stuff be done
Look at that face. He is thinking profound thoughts.

@fname yes!! I can’t remember if I saw it somewhere online (probably) or if we just threw it in to see what they would do with it. But they loved it!
@chris @fname Our showed no interest. Not even sit with it. Birds are odd really.
Our latest flock is the pickiest we ever had. They essentially only like cucumber, pear, water melon and blueberries 🙄
We always fed our chickens any scraps from the kitchen (that are safe for chickens) and they ate them all. These guys? Nope. 🙂↔️

I should blog more often probably.
Although maybe after reading this, perhaps I shouldn't blog more.
Hmm.
@c0dec0dec0de A light field display - it's 3D, but you don't have to stick it to your face.

Additional context, though I (and I'm sure others) would appreciate a link to what it is you're trying to make

In my opinion, xmpp kinda fits perfectly? It was used in multiple platforms before (google, facebook, Gaia online, and gosh the list goes on, every platform 2005-2013???)
Why wouldn’t it be a decent solution for the fediverse software to pair with it, just like other networks did before?? Fediverse accounts already have the schema (user)@(domain.tld)
I understand Matrix needs more storage than xmpp, but I think either one could work.
One nice thing about XMPP is that it can theoretically use transports to connect to everything and then some.
I have seen a Matrix/ActivityPub bridge in action, though.
Hoping this isn't slop.
@inpc It has many slop tells.
Really feeling lately like people (especially Red Hat, Canonical etc.) use the term "community" the way that the Regional Manager at Papa John's uses the word "family", and that both are red flags about how you're about to be treated by someone who considers you a captive audience and extraction-ready labor resource.
I like the way @ireneista defines community (https://adhd.irenes.space/@ireneista/statuses/01M6YE9SP2BYVT463H4JR4BQPH), and I think what people are really looking for in broader movements are *coalitions.*
A coalition is a group-of-groups. They're allowed to be unlikely bedfellows who wouldn't agree on most topics. The most dramatic example I know was when the Black Panthers and the KKK found something they could agree on (second-amendment rights) and put aside some differences to push for their shared goals. It didn't mean those groups got along in general.

Let's be clear about one thing: Black voters saved Democracy's ass. If the Democrats don't use their power to assure voting rights and erase the Republicans' racist policies, they will have every right to say, "Next time's on you all."

Dont forget the instance operators who actually keep the servers running. Donations keep instances up.
