For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.

How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!

People have this misconception that the "commons" was simply open to anyone and everyone to use. This was never the case and never how the commons worked. Access to the commons was restricted by membership in community.

The founders of the tech commons misunderstood this concept. Which is why you end up with them now arguing about whether slavers should be a part of their projects.

They started with tech freedom, when they should have started with *community* freedom.

Considering my merephone plans... The device will require an SD card to be plugged in!

At the very least I'd need to store an addressbook & chat history there, my design relies on that! Though I'll have plenty of other uses, including storing data for improved text rendering.

So I suppose I'll need an error screen for when it lacks an SD card! I think I'll probably include a QR code there linking to a download page for a disk image with some near-necessary files?

Oh I didn't realise it was Pretend to be Good Person Sunday.

You can tell who are pretending to be good people because they wear these red poppy things to distinguish themselves from other people.

Basically, you wear one of those poppies and it supposedly makes it look like you care about things but you should never mention current war crimes like what is happening in Gaza and you shouldn't mention the UK's support and enabling of the genocide there or anywhere. Instead you just wear a poppy and just walk about a bit.

Or, like BBC presenters, you wear a poppy and look like a smug twat.

It happens every year I am told.
