Thank you to all the developers and instance administrators! 💓

(Shame on those who stir up controversy for ideological reasons, seeking the worst in people who dedicate their time to improving the technology that enables the use of an open social web! 👿🤬)

• Lemmy, Piefed, PyLova, Mbin
• All the apps (and there are quite a few)
• All the alternatives UIs (Photon, Blorp, old, etc.)

Thank you everyone

Good callout, thank you! A tale as old as 56k: don’t feed the trolls.

shout out to the lemmy developers for not making us be stuck on the other site

shout out to mastodon devs for making us have a better life than on Twitter

ETA: Shout out to the server operators who make the stuff be done

They’re already here. If someone tries to fight with you unreasonably, leave a clarifying comment and let it go. They’re not as prolific here, but if you spend any time in news or politics communities, you’ve seen them.

It feels like a dream, 10 years ago, chatting with people from many projects, excited about the world we were building towards.

There was a "free software" community then, full of folks who cared deeply about human rights and freedom and who saw free and open software systems as an important part of that work.

That community is gone. Fractured by problems discussed then that, in hindsight, I now understand to be deeply rooted in the tenets and infrastructure of the movement.

Breaking News: Senator Elect Adam Hamilton (D-KS) | "I Won't Support Chuck Schumer"

I won't support Chuck Schumer. Blue Wave will be 'one and done' if Dems don't help people.

I mean no disrespect to Chuck Schumer... but he is a polarizing figure. It is time for new ideas and somebody who can unite us instead of dividing us.

@eniko nobody ever says "it's just a tool" unless they have some interest in using it. It's a post-hoc rationalisation.

Doesn't make it any less annoying when people say it tho.

Thanks, Lemmy folks! I have been, and intend to continue to be, intending to put up a server.

I’m sorry, in advance, for what is going to happen to all your hard work, as Reddit craters and all the oligarch bots start coming here to manipulate the populace / control the narrative.

As I’ve been saying since Usenet and Slashdot; it was good while it lasted.

amen 🙏

@glynmoody aha. You want more refinement ;)

Wrote some notes on creating Dial https://julienblanchard.com/posts/dial-tcp-and-tls-for-mac-os-9.html
Dial is a small TCP library for Mac OS 9 and CodeWarrior 6. Mostly a wrapper around OpenTransport and BearSSL.
Grab the static libs I published earlier at https://julienblanchard.com/files.html. Add BearSSL and Certificates and it does TLS, add cJSON and you can do all kind of webshit without a proxy :)
