Is the NYT ever, ever going to do these kind of safari trips to blue areas? Talk with latino hotel workers in Vegas? Middle-aged suburban resistance moms? Young black men? Does the paper ever extend its empathy to anyone other than disgruntled white people?

@volts.wtf I kind of liked this video, because their tears were delicious.
It's actually much worse than that.
This is quite techy, but bottom line is every Mac builds a database and associated knowledge graph of all your interactions with other people.

How private do you consider your votes in the Threadiverse?
From the technical side anyone can spin up their own Lemmy instance and view all votes, but I'm curious at what the community's perspective on how "private" that is. I think Mbin already shows upvoters? Piefed allows anonymous voting. I also know there are sites which show all voting history, but assuming those are fairly disliked.
My general questions to the community: - Do you expect your votes to be private, or just not shown in the UI? - Would per-voter votes showing up on another aggregator platform bother you, even though your instance already shares them with other servers?
For context I'm the dev doing some two way bridge interop between atproto + Threadiverse, in atproto the votes/likes are generally publicly accessible, you just look at the users repo through something like pdsls.dev, they're readable and archivable by anyone. In my opinion this isn't that big of a problem since it's fairly hard to look at and discern (Ex all my votes: https://pdsls.dev/at://did:plc:lmdkqemqrqnfiix72pyjhfey/social.coves.feed.vote). Ultimately trying to figure out if there's already a mutual understanding that they are public and we can just mirror them or whether they should stay hidden as an aggregate.
Find in the Internet. Very funny but I would say this is just one big circle, no need for the Venn splits it's all correct for all of them!! 🤣

About 10 years ago I decided that the only way I could proceed forward in life is to automatically assume I’m being watched and listened to always. This has nothing to do with paranoia and everything to do with the nature of tech ownership and capitalism.
AI is a technofascist project built on pillaging the commons to facilitate a wealth transfer to the ultra wealthy. it is not "just a tool" unless you're somehow immune to moral injury and prepared to completely disregard the political, ethical, and environmental aspects of the thing
One of the reasons why Codes of Conduct are so important is the right of Freedom of Association in Safety.
Takes about COCs taking away developers rights show why Freedom of Speech needs to be twinned with Freedom of Association.
Those takes are massive red flags to folks who are marginalised.
We learn those red flags for a reason.
Like my dude, your rights end where you are harming others safety.
But that's fine, we'll form our own groups and you have the freedom to not join us.
@fabi1cazenave @gc Yes. And we do have arguments you could address with counter arguments.
Orgdown is an excellent example of one lightweight markup language (LML) among many for reasons and not for gut feelings alone. 😉
There are other LMLs that are awesome as well.
Unfortunately, Markdown has many downsides we should be aware of.
By just using different LMLs (doesn't have to be org), you could mitigate many risks associated with MD. And this is the discussion I'm looking for.
@publicvoit Well, please do, but without mentioning me. Thanks.
I guess the echoes of a "slaver mindset" that I hear in the way a lot of people talk about the benefits of modern LLM platforms isn't so much of an echo after all.
incredible take from one of the GNU maintainers, seriously
@ariadne honestly I think the “community” should split, people who feel ethics are important on one side and people who don’t care on the other. Starting from scratch is not easy, maybe not even practical in the slightest, but is it ethical to use past work of people who have now become unethical or perhaps have always been unethical. Ethics is complicated but “is slavery bad??” Is one of the simplest things ever and when someone can’t answer that correctly it’s time to split.
Tonight was surprise #game night with our neighbour unexpectedly joining us for a session of the always enjoyable #Garphill #BoardGame Raiders of Scythia. Muggins lost as per usual, but enjoyment was had by all, so that's a win-win in my book.

insane numbers; #putin really hates russians
@glynmoody
While I believe these numbers are accurate, do you know of another source that corroborates?

Remember when iPhone didn't allow installing apps at all? Ha!
Has the "ambiguous case" ever caused any "real-world" problems?
It's been a while that I've done maths but I don't see how EF could be equal both to EG and BC, without changing the 51° angle's value ?
If you slide BC to the right in the first figure, either the angle will change or C will leave the AC line (well, the original AC line I mean; C' won't be on the AC line, if you call C' the new position of C and keep the old one as C).
One of the first things on the agenda for the new majority has to be doing everything possible to defund and abolish ICE.
I honestly don’t know how a person is told “go arrest this eight-year-old child” and doesn’t quit on the spot. https://www.kpbs.org/news/border-immigration/2026/11/06/haitian-boy-8-detained-during-scheduled-immigration-appointment
