@Rhube i was considering a Surface Go at one point (a 10" tablet that was literally a PC and would apparently Linux quite well) but i knew she'd nick it for precisely that
@davidgerard That does sound pretty cool.
I also wanted a lighter laptop for writing that was easier to carry about than my gaming laptop, so the Lenovo Yoga worked pretty well for that.
I have a good artist's tablet, but it has to be wired to a laptop for use, and that's really limiting. Decent tablets for drawing that don't need that are £££, though.
What a nice place: https://www.absynth.space/
before i moved to the UK everyone was commiserating about me departing for a rainy fascist island but in practice there's not enough rain and the only thing standing between me and trans healthcare is a shortage of drugs
it's interesting how much international perception can differ from lived experience

@ki_und_koffein KI steht für "Kann's irgendwas?"
@bleeptrack nice 🥰
but I'm wondering, shouldn't the be more strings than the 4 you play with the bow?
I'm used to seeing instruments with resonance strings?
@dec_hl correct! 😊 They are missing on the electric version. It's better to pick up a "clear" sound and add volume as an effect in this case 😊 at least all e-versions I've seen so far come without sympathetic strings.

@drq one thing that i'm afraid of is that this timing would make it really easy for trump and his cronies to go "the democrats hate the economy" and turn AI into a partisan issue (so far it's not, with republicans only slightly more in favor of it, but about equally not in favor of specific issues, like the data center build-up)
@rnd From what I can see, it *is* a partisan issue, actually. There are two camps: AI shills who will eat up anything as long as it's AI, and hardcore denialists who just ignore or aggressively reject the world changing around them.
The shills are led and fed by big AI corporations who are very much in bed with the Republicans and the current US administration, which directly or indirectly subsidizes the AI datacenter build-up with taxpayer money.
So the denialists congregate in the blue camp or further left - the further, the more frantic in weeding out any and all use of machine learning tools, so the rest must join in, and some do for the fear.
Which makes the margin of mixers and in-betweeners razor-thin. The whole discourse is very polarized and broken and everything you will hear or read about it on the Internet *will* be wrong.
Kinda makes me wanna fast-forward time until years after the bubble has been burst and everyone has calmed down and come to their goddamn senses.

This seem to stem from a misunderstanding. Lemmy and Mastodon have different goals. Users of each generally don’t want the other’s content generally showing up en masse.
If you want to see something from Mastodon, you can usually get it on Lemmy, and vice versa. I don’t often see Mastodon posts either, but that’s because I only follow Lemmy communities, so I only see them when someone on Mastodon tags a Lemmy community in their post. If you want to see more Mastodon content, see if you can follow some users or hashtags from Lemmy.
But that might not be supported; I haven’t tried. If you prefer Mastodon, I’m pretty sure that you can follow Lemmy communities from there.
like regardless of what you feel about LLMs, it is very easy to just do/say anything other than "contributions resulting from slavery are good, actually"
@ariadne I feel that’s the point. There are mountains of tech people salivating at the restoration of slavery.
And it would be, because at some point people would start to be managed through LLM’s. But at that point the bros are already referring to and treating these machines as slaves.
What that will do to our society will not be pretty. No terminology borrowed from slavery should ever be used, not even for machines, because of what it will do to us!
To church without my wife, and there I saw Pembleton come into the church and bring his wife with him, a good comely plain woman, and by and by my wife came after me all alone, which I was a little vexed at.
#TNG S05E13, "The Masterpiece Society". I actually like this story, but am compelled to deploy the pun: "Prattlestar Gatattaca".
@aphyr I'm surprised Troi doesn't explode in a stellar core fragment's worth of therapy speak given person in the colony of constantly saying "don't mind that person's feelings; they're just genetically programmed to feel that way".
“vaccines not only averted severe illness and saved lives but were also a sound investment.
evidence that the unprecedented, rapid investments made into COVID-19 vaccines early in the pandemic paid off massively both in health and economic benefits," https://medicalxpress.com/news/2026-11-covid-vaccines-generated-trillions-benefits.html
I literally just installed Gentoo yesterday, for the same reason. It bothers me that ethics tend to get left out of the conversation about LLM usage so often when it is in fact my primary concern. (I always thought ethics were at the core of the open source philosophy, but I suppose I've just been naive.)
I tried the BSDs as well but both wireless and audio drivers for my laptop were not supported, so Gentoo seemed like the next best thing. So far, I'm thrilled with the experience; having OpenRC, no boot loader (I went with EFI stub, which I didn't even know was a thing), and a package manager that can build from source is just too cool. I even managed to have a working install on my first attempt. I hope you have the same luck!
I'll probably still run OpenBSD on my ancient Toughbook to tinker with because I really enjoyed using it on that old thing.
What in the absolute fuck is going on with Bit Reactor?!
Star Wars Zero Company sold over a million copies. Its studio has just laid off staff

@majorlinux again??
A new #littleFedi build should be ready in the coming days and probably be released shortly after.
Stay tuned!
no wonder the soviet union failed because of conflicts between its members, they should have made it a soviet struct instead
i'm desperate at this point so i guess i'll put out a #getfedihired call.
