Le premier signe de civilisation dans une culture, c'est la grève générale.
so i'm pretty sure the FSF is going to claim LLMs are an allowed usage. and this isn't going to be legally significant in a direct way, because the FSF is not a judge. but it is very significant indirectly, because it essentially adds an extra clause to the GPL license every contributor thought they were agreeing to, retroactively declaring their contributors' work as fair game for LLMs
i kind of envy the right wing
hate them, but envy
they don't have to consider whether or not each piece of technology is a communist project designed to subvert the hierarchy, or whether certain lifestyle decisions they do benefit the left
that kind of stuff doesn't really exist, and is hard to make because pretty much any technology, launched in an unequal world, will probably benefit those who have the most power and resources to make use of it, and thus usually reinforce the hierarchy, rather than subvert it
the FSF doesn't even let you see the copyright assignment without doxing yourself. you have to email assign@gnu.org to get them to send you a document, after doxing yourself. that's the biggest red flag i've ever seen in my entire life. it's not something you do unless you want to provide different contract terms to different people. why is the FSF acting like corporate HR

@neil Some might call it a bastard. Other’s would just call it a git.
I don't think House of Pains Jump Around would have been half as popular if it had been called Scrump About
@TheBreadmonkey Damn, The Wurzels just left that cover version lying on the table, didn’t they? Thank god

@ariadne They've been very consistent when it comes to software freedom over any particular set of ethics.

@dangillmor Frontage.
The Trump administration wants underwater datacenters. One Great Lakes non-profit is already preparing
Tech companies like the idea, as they largely eliminate community opposition, and could cut down on utility costs
“We are concerned because if you think about what a datacenter does, it throws off a lot of heat. Lake Erie already has an issue with harmful algal blooms, and they develop because of heat, not only because of fertilizers and agricultural runoff,” said John Lipaj of the Lake Erie Foundation, a non-profit based in Ohio.

I really need to replace this thing.
@lina last year it stopped running the routine after my morning alarm on its own. They’re really making a push, I just want to hop off the track and go for Home Assistant instead.
I just got stuck with a lot of devices I can’t seem to connect to it.
I've taken the opportunity to do some roof repairs, due to the long run of dry weather. Replacing rusted nails, broken slates, and renewing some woodwork.
Now, as much as I like using traditional methods, I've stopped using the slater's hammer to make the nail holes. I made a beautiful job of "cutting" a slate to the correct size and shape, only for it to split when I was making the hole.
The cordless drill with masonry bit, on medium speed, makes a great hole.
