If you don't know for sure some may hang on to that thread like a lifeline.
My aunt died in her home, we had to get a welfare check. My mom lived in a head space for ages on what she could have done differently to help. Even though the my aunt took a year to agree to go out to dinner, she was such a shut in. Still, my mom struggled. Grief is hard, and weird. Hope can help people avoid accepting death.
But there is a difference between knowing she was dead for maybe 10 days, and knowing for sure she was eaten by her cats.
We're the kind of family that will make macabre jokes about that sort of thing, now that enough time had passed, but it was not so pleasant when trying to catch said cats in her home.
@sewblue Oooh, yikes on the cats!
