For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.
How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!

I could talk all day about Black voter turnout but to understand what -actually- is propelling the Democrat rise right now you also have to pay attention rural white voters in majority white districts.
Places like North Carolina's 11th district it easy to see how candidates like Jamie Ager won.
A focus on TRUE working class Southern politics.
- FEMA funding
- Cheaper health care
- Lowering inflation
- Ending Trump corruption

Now don't get me wrong the US left & DNC tea leaves readers like me will debate who gets credit for these "blue" wins until the heat death of the universe.
But one thing is clear Trump and the Republicans lost BIGLY. They have no one to blame but themselves
And we're all laughing at MAGA for putting their electoral future in Trump's hands.
Only time will tell how that shit stain on American history will react (probably bombing Iran more) but for now this week is funny af
Just to state really clearly what is going here.
The New York Times is leading an information warfare operation to mislead the public that Chuck Schumer has the votes, and is the inevitable next Majority Leader.
This is not the case. Schumer has significant opposition both from new and incumbent Senators.
We have see the New York Times use this disinformation tactic many times before.
Do not be misled.

@mastodonmigration I saw their headline and concur with your analysis. They want him in and mislead to achieve that.
@Lstn2urmama @Sea1Am @pinhman the folks doing 500km a day - truckers - are in a different class of vehicle. A class that theoretically should be much easier to electrify than consumer vehicles. But as we saw with the startup in B.C. making electric logging trucks, the provincial and federal governments not only arenβt interested in supporting them, they continue to support systems that make it very hard for businesses to innovate in transportation.
For the rest of us though, the vast majority of cars and trucks on the road do no more than 100km a day. My commute is on the high end, 160km a day, and I have been doing it in an EV since 2019.
Technology and capability is not the problem anymore. It is *all* about governments and corporations wanting to continue the status quo at all cost.

@Canageek Do you have some links? All I find is the one incident from June.
@ludovic They are older, from the marketing of Cyberpunk 2020, they had repeated pro-gamergate comments and transphobic comments: I didn't follow them for a few years after that. It shouldn't be hard to search for 'GOG Gamergate" to get sources.
I haven't followed them for a few years after that, but I did hear a theory that CD Projektred sold them off to quit dealing with their PR issues, no idea how true it is, but it seems this keeps happening

With Miller's rise, Trump declares final, total war on democracy. We must brook no talk of collaboration from Dem leaders or moderation from the #BrokenTimes & Post: not "provocative policies," "maximalist approach to executive power" bullshit. This is war.
If we're at war, are we going to tolerate a non-armed response?

How private do you consider your votes in the Threadiverse?
From the technical side anyone can spin up their own Lemmy instance and view all votes, but I'm curious at what the community's perspective on how "private" that is. I think Mbin already shows upvoters? Piefed allows anonymous voting. I also know there are sites which show all voting history, but assuming those are fairly disliked.
My general questions to the community: - Do you expect your votes to be private, or just not shown in the UI? - Would per-voter votes showing up on another aggregator platform bother you, even though your instance already shares them with other servers?
For context I'm the dev doing some two way bridge interop between atproto + Threadiverse, in atproto the votes/likes are generally publicly accessible, you just look at the users repo through something like pdsls.dev, they're readable and archivable by anyone. In my opinion this isn't that big of a problem since it's fairly hard to look at and discern (Ex all my votes: https://pdsls.dev/at://did:plc:lmdkqemqrqnfiix72pyjhfey/social.coves.feed.vote). Ultimately trying to figure out if there's already a mutual understanding that they are public and we can just mirror them or whether they should stay hidden as an aggregate.
