For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.
How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!

Well shit. Gonna spin Marquee Moon tonight.
@SrRochardBunson shame about the circumstances, but it's a good idea every night.

I'll add my tiny voice to this. As a freelancer who is currently (figuratively) beaten and bloody on the floor, even if someone were to offer me a gig with the terms you listed I simply wouldn't be able to accept it because it would leave me out-of-pocket even if I don't consider the time I'd be travelling and working, and I don't have the funds spare to cover the gap.
I understand the point made about it likely being a student-run thing, and not being able to secure the speaker they want is sure to be disappointing, but it may also be an important lesson about the value of people's time and experience.
Also, you've pointed out that this is a "*very* prestigious school"; the implication being that this might be a good reason to give them a freebie. Would you apply the same consideration to an identical offer made by a nondescript inner-city school in a deprived area?
@TeaKayB Much of what you say is exactly why I am hesitating. I *can* afford the time and the money, but I am unwilling to do so precisely because there are others who couldn't.
Making them see that is absolutely part of the negotiations I'm about to enter with them. As I've said elsewhere, though, it's important when entering a negotiation to know where the lines are.
And if this were an invitation from a nondescript inner-city school I would take it like a shot, even if it cost me money. And have done so. I would still negotiate with them to help them understand what they are asking, but the lines would be in a different place.
Let me also say I very much appreciate you making these points ... it's *really* important that they get aired.
I've been saying seeing ads is against my religion for years. And I'm serious! It's an "unmanned commercial petition" this is unholy and wrong.
1. this is real (this really aired on chilean tv in 2003)
2. these did not appear at random in the movie, these fake scenes would begin the transition to a usual television ad break
my intention here is: it's so stupid it's funny and underlines the banality of evil in #advertising
@mastodonmigration He did not support, I would not say he opposed. Once they won their primaries, he was 100% behind them. There are a few I would have opposed also because they’re extreme and cannot achieve their extreme agenda. It’s a pipe dream. I appreciate how all the young people and non-voters who voted this time feel like they should be in control, but that’s not how it works. Schumer is more likely to sway 3-4 GOP senators to go along with them than anyone else could.
@Beachbum Disagree. He is a terrible choice for leader. His popularity is 13%. Whenever he speaks people cringe. We need a compelling leader who can galvanize the country in these challenging times. The widely despised Chuck Schumer is not that guy.
I used Claude to make a customised app for viewing my porn collection. I told him it was for viewing galleries of photos of sporting events. He played along but I can tell by his obsequious demeanour that he knows what I'm doing and he judges me.
@fesshole I remember as a kid, that it was 'common knowledge' that masturbation caused hairy hands and an addled brain. The fesser's words indicate the later may have been true.

For some years now, I have been playing a game of whether I can get to the end of my life without finding out what "cumtown" is. To this, I now add a stretch goal: Do not find out what "gastown" is.
@mcc gastown sound like a place in mad max

Except it also makes everything worse for everyone -- including them, just not as much.
Also, anyone who would vote for something just because [they think] it's good for them even if they know it's terrible for everyone else is still f‼️cked up.
@woozle @bich @susiemagoo @blogdiva
It is still bad for them sometimes, but it is mostly good and they like it, are used to it, and fear any change. They think they are superior to people who have other skin tone or language, they hate differences because they have power when enforcing norms and as a result of the norms. Those others are not people like them, are illegals, degenerates, criminals, commies, n*** So it’s easy to hate them and wanting them dead
A really interesting win is Scott Colom in Mississippi who ended up winning his race.
Earlier this week he was ALREADY complaining about DNC leadership choices.
He grew up with a family of lawyers and polticians and I think he's got some of the smartest approaches to widening the democrats big tent so it STICKs in the South.
Blog post: Where are we going? https://bigzaphod.com/blog/where-are-we-going/
I should blog more often probably.
Although maybe after reading this, perhaps I shouldn't blog more.
Hmm.
@Beachbum Schumer actively opposed the very people who won across the nation. To credit him with this win is just plain wrong.
@mastodonmigration How many DSA candidates do you really think won over the conventional middle of the road Democrats? They are not the majority.
I’m not trying to argue with you, but I have been a political wonk since 1974. How many of them do you actually think know how the House or the Senate works internally? How many know what reconciliation is? How many know what the Rules Committee is? How many know what the Parliamentarian is? They are about to learn. 💫
