@cockneylaurie No. The White House Chief of Staff’s job is to handle all the day-to-day political stuff — choosing staff, keeping the cabinet in line, deciding what information and people get through to see the president. A president needs someone to do that stuff whether they’re planning to run again or not.

I don't expect much privacy on a shared public space like the fediverse. If I wanted privacy, I'd spin up a new profile every day/week, and use an external bookmark manager to save stuff

Right… fingers crossed, barring calamity, I should start rolling out the Kitten update in the next few minutes.
Migrating servers from API version 0 to API version 1 is a manual process (from API version 1 onwards, it’s automatic, including across API versions, with full rollback) so I’m going to be updating our servers too afterwards.
I’ll make an announcement once I’m happy that everything is running smoothly.
(And then, hopefully go and celebrate at my big 5-0 birthday do this evening in Dublin with some good ’ol BBQ and drag queen karaoke.)
Never release on a Friday? But it ain’t a Friday, amirite? :)

@rolle @mutteripannu näin entisenä Linux Adminina, Webmasterina ja LAMP superasiantuntijana (joka jo kirosi jotain aukkoista tomcatia joka piti kytkeä sisään) ne muistaa. Veihän se jo melkein työt. Onneksi saattoi vielä perustella oman olemassaolon Apache/NgnX proxyttämisellä. Mutta sitten tuli kontit ja koko tuo työnkuva kuoli.
Ei muuten ole ikävä. Nykyään lähinnä ketuttaa, ettei lähtenyt heti kontteihin, vaan oikeastaan oppi ne vasta kun en enää tehnyt työtä niiden parissa. Kaikki se tuska ja ketutus mikä meni niiden virtuaalikoneiden säätöön vs. skriptatut devopsit 🫣

I've often suspected that auto-complete was used as a subtle/shadow form of semi-censorship, and now comes evidence from the auto-complete function on the Apple iPhone that confirms exactly that suspicion... anyone who thinks this issue is limited to Apple, has not been paying attention to the politics & behaviour of Big Tech.

@drew Advice always has to be mindful of context for the recipient anyway; here is a time when it's likely more important to make certain dimensions explicit. So you can tell them that your advice is different depending on stuff like:
What's the recipient's appetite for risk? How long are they ok trying something in uncertain, volatile conditions?
Do they have other people nearby who will understand, encourage and sustain them while they're bucking trends?
