How private do you consider your votes in the Threadiverse?
From the technical side anyone can spin up their own Lemmy instance and view all votes, but I'm curious at what the community's perspective on how "private" that is. I think Mbin already shows upvoters? Piefed allows anonymous voting. I also know there are sites which show all voting history, but assuming those are fairly disliked.
My general questions to the community: - Do you expect your votes to be private, or just not shown in the UI? - Would per-voter votes showing up on another aggregator platform bother you, even though your instance already shares them with other servers?
For context I'm the dev doing some two way bridge interop between atproto + Threadiverse, in atproto the votes/likes are generally publicly accessible, you just look at the users repo through something like pdsls.dev, they're readable and archivable by anyone. In my opinion this isn't that big of a problem since it's fairly hard to look at and discern (Ex all my votes: https://pdsls.dev/at://did:plc:lmdkqemqrqnfiix72pyjhfey/social.coves.feed.vote). Ultimately trying to figure out if there's already a mutual understanding that they are public and we can just mirror them or whether they should stay hidden as an aggregate.
I don’t expect my votes to be private, but I will vote as if they were. People reading too much into why someone might have voted a certain way and trying to shame them for it is embarrassing, I’m not going to constrain myself to reasons for voting that are immediately legible to anyone via only one bit of information just for their sake. If I want to downvote something with, for instance, a political message I agree with but the person phrased it in a way that goes against my pet peeves, I’m gonna do that, and I think the ideal would be for these numbers not to be taken very personally or seriously.
So basically I’d say it’s bad taste to put it in a UI, but only so far as it encourages people to be weird about it, and ultimately that’s on them.
@mdhughes it's the best spiderman
@ajroach42 I would put Into the Spider-Verse pretty high because it's mostly Miles Morales, the only valid Spider-Man. Supaidaman doesn't address the "real life" of the guy much.
@jalefkowit @healyn Not that anyone is taking script writing advice from me, but I still think that this would be a perfect opportunity to have the next bond story arc take place in the 1960s. Don't even worry about how it fits in between the Connery movies, just do 1960s Bond adventures.
I'd pay a premium to see that in a cinema.
No one is ever going to come up with a better title for a movie than this. My suggestion would be to stop trying. Just make your movie title a long string of random characters

They have finally called the race to fill noted crazy person Nancy Mace’s House seat down here. It went to the Democrat, Nancy Lacore, a retired admiral Pete Hegseth drove out of the Navy last year.

@jalefkowit The hearings are going to be lit. 🔥
Real change often starts close to home, and on Tuesday it did. Democrats flipped more than 500 state legislative seats and now hold a majority of them nationwide. Since 2010, Republicans have used those seats to draw maps that protect their power and to block what voters wanted. Todd Beeton breaks down why that era may be ending. https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/2026-blue-wave-state-legislatures

As always, dems will be complacent and think that they will be reelected the same way again. Do nothing about the gerrymandering, do nothing about the electoral collage. Instead try to enrich themselves and collect the bribe billions from the techbros instead of installing real taxes.
No, USA will never change.

@BobLefridge When I was last there I guess ten years ago a) I was told there was no airport bus and b) the taxi was in fact about $100.
There was an airport shuttle which would be cheaper if you were solo.
Nothing like helping your elderly mother with a new tech gadget to remind you of just how utterly awful the entire experience of using new tech is. The metaphors and idioms and icons and processes we all grudgingly put up with in our daily life are completely baffling to most everyone else and doubly or triply baffling to people entering the mental decline stage.
@bigzaphod Yeah, I kept assuring my mother that the problem was with them, not with her

@healyn It replenishes, or it can, anyway. The first Bond story came out in 1953, and the first movie in ‘62. So the original Bond fans were already pretty ancient when I was lining up with my school friends to see Goldeneye in 1995. Now we’re on like the third full generation.
Maybe there will be a fourth, if they can come up with a fresh enough take on the character to reel in new people. But nothing’s guaranteed
