@evan Great thread!
Real change often starts close to home, and on Tuesday it did. Democrats flipped more than 500 state legislative seats and now hold a majority of them nationwide. Since 2010, Republicans have used those seats to draw maps that protect their power and to block what voters wanted. Todd Beeton breaks down why that era may be ending. https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/2026-blue-wave-state-legislatures
I was scared to go to sleep last night, in case this was a dream.
Really Dorothy, there is no place like home.

On the unlikely chance that @blogdiva doesn't already know about this...
{
"Why would she know about it?"
"Well, she knows everything!"
"Ooh I wouldn't like that -- it'd take all the mystery out of life!"
(with apologies to M. Python and any accidentally-exploded television penguins)

Me personally I would say that private votes are better if possible. But you should be able to filter when you’re logged in what you upvoted and downvoted. That’s how I would like it ideally.
Stephen Miller terrorized, kidnapped, and murdered my neighbors.
This is not some vague figurative sloganeering thing. I can take you on a walk from my house and point out the spots where they took people. I know multiple people who had relatives abducted by ICE, including citizens. My wife personally knew Alex Pretti, and found out he died when she saw his face on the news.
Stephen Miller. This was his brainchild. This was his fantasy. This is on his hands. Just so we’re clear.

Government must move away from toxic social media platforms | Open Rights Group [Video]
We shouldn’t be forced to use toxic platforms that track and profile us in order to get public information.
Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube track and profile their users so that they can target advertising towards them.
Their business models fuel online harms by pushing more and more extreme content to users. Despite this, these platforms are one of the primary ways that government departments share public information.
Tell your MP to support the EDM calling on the UK Government to ensure that all public sector social media content is published on open, decentralised and federated platforms!

"RIP era of bipartisan cooperation (11/4-11/5)." 👌

Another big effect of the 2024 elections was a shift away from American big tech among the "middle powers" in Europe, Canada, Brazil. Europe in particular has provided additional funding for Fediverse projects. Will that continue after the 2026 elections? My feeling is yes. I think digital sovereignty efforts are a long term effect, and I don't think they'll reverse, or even slow down.
yall haven't seen nothing yet
Review unit is here!
MacBook Pro PROLED XDR, 16" nano texture, M5 Max, 128 GB of RAM.
The display is even better than I remembered.
What are your questions?
@viticci does the PROLED XDR make you see other displays as significantly inferior?
Of course, @DoctorDeathray never stopped making music. She's got several albums and half a dozen EPs on her bandcamp.

Violet and Sundog are playing a gig in Athens GA tomorrow, if you might be in the area, you should check it out.
The first effect I can think of is reversing DOGE cuts such that Fediverse software development or other work is better funded by the US government. I guess that's possible, but we haven't had a lot of US government funding to begin with. So, I'd say minor if any benefit here.
The second is antitrust. Congress does not run the FCC or the FTC, but it can hold hearings and investigations. I guess there's a path to having more Big Tech investigations for antitrust. Sometimes tech companies comply in advance, by implementing interoperability before they're forced to. I'm not sure this is high on the Democrats' agenda, so I'd give it a minor effect, again.
