Hmm, estate sale ad. My interpretation is that the person here was an attorney, had no hobbies, and spent their entire life working, and thus the estate sale will be boring and not worth it. (because, no hobbies).
@ai6yr I’m interested in the cases. Look GREATV
@Amgine If the firmware has never been patched because people don't know to do so, or else the firmware went "end of life" years ago, or simply the passwords were the manufacturers default passwords, then a hack like this would wipe out any possible savings on energy consumption.
Some of these freezers/refrigerators were not even all that old. People typically replace this kind of thing when it stops refrigerating/freezing food...which could be 10,15, 20 or more years.
When did you previously hear of someone hacking a fridge?
Like almost all of us, we do not take action on unproven or unknown threats. Is your wallet a faraday cage? If you have cards with rfid or magnetic stripes, it probably should be.
We also do not take action on proven, known threats. Like owning a mobile device.
So it is not useful to blame people for being hacked. It is better to upstream this: why is it they **could** be hacked.
if you want a better comparison it's The Combine from HL2
the best part of preludes 17 is that people keep coming into the Q&A chat and going "I've tried everything! I can't figure out what to feed the timbermaw!" and the correct answer is "feed it its own legs"
Look, y'all don't want to hear this, but Edge is so much nicer on Windows 11 than Firefox. The performance and responsiveness difference is mind-blowing.
Firefox would be in less trouble if it sucked less on Windows.

Today I got my name on a cup for the first time.
But earlier this year Violet was kind enough to record the theme song for our new cartoon Kumiai-Ki The Mighty Labor Union Mech.
https://hurlyburlyandthevolcanicfallout.bandcamp.com/album/kumiai-ki-the-mighty-labor-union-mech
There are three versions of the track up at that link, a clean(ish) version, a super distorted version, and an instrumental version of the super distorted version.
And, at least as far as I'm concerned, it is now the must Hurly Burly thing to ever exist.
I'm attempting to do this with my broken jaw…

Q6. If you have multiple bikes, what is the most specialty or otherwise unique one you own? What makes it different from a "normal" bike?

@ascentale @gbargoud @bikenite A6: there's the one that's actually mine and the others I'm fixing up to give away while I learn about bike maintenance and repair xD
BUT: if I _did_ have another, and I'd like to, it'd be a dedicated cargo hauler. I'd love a proper cargo bike. And it'd be for... CARGO! :D

How private do you consider your votes in the Threadiverse?
From the technical side anyone can spin up their own Lemmy instance and view all votes, but I'm curious at what the community's perspective on how "private" that is. I think Mbin already shows upvoters? Piefed allows anonymous voting. I also know there are sites which show all voting history, but assuming those are fairly disliked.
My general questions to the community: - Do you expect your votes to be private, or just not shown in the UI? - Would per-voter votes showing up on another aggregator platform bother you, even though your instance already shares them with other servers?
For context I'm the dev doing some two way bridge interop between atproto + Threadiverse, in atproto the votes/likes are generally publicly accessible, you just look at the users repo through something like pdsls.dev, they're readable and archivable by anyone. In my opinion this isn't that big of a problem since it's fairly hard to look at and discern (Ex all my votes: https://pdsls.dev/at://did:plc:lmdkqemqrqnfiix72pyjhfey/social.coves.feed.vote). Ultimately trying to figure out if there's already a mutual understanding that they are public and we can just mirror them or whether they should stay hidden as an aggregate.
