@eternalstorms Hey Matthias! Just a head’s up that I gave Yoink a shout out in my newsletter this week, it’s a really great app! I appreciate all you do 🙏
@hiro I bought Yoink 2 years ago due to your review and I still use it every single day. One of those incredible apps you never knew you needed until you tried it out. Thanks @eternalstorms for making these awesome tools and let me know if there's anything I can do to help spread the word.
I am still taking a break from coding. It really helps me think about how I will start again and focus on my existing projects. But I still read your messages from time to time.
I wish you a good weekend, my parrots have already started theirs. See you soon.
@apps Chill out! 🦜
Very probably the more your submission appeared to be written by generative AI, the more likely it would be to be accepted. If some person came in with an ungainly, unreadable patch and was aggressively pushing a project to accept it you'd get suspicious and wonder why but if an AI did that you'd be oh well AIs are just like that and AI written code is just like that
@mcc "well, i can't find this vuln, but AI is so much better at finding them these days..."
> So far only OpenBSD did syscall filtering in a sane although a partially limiting way. Capsicum failed and seccomp is hard to implement to the point of developers giving up on it.
these are all vastly different approaches though, and Capsicum didn't fail; its usage is still being expanded in FreeBSD.
in short analogies:
Pledge says, "Lock the door behind me."
Capsicum says, "These are all I'll be asking for."
Pledge trusts you to keep a promise.
Capsicum makes sure you don't have anything to break it with.
Pledge is obviously ahead because it's an expression of "perfect is the enemy of good". Capsicum wants perfection.
happy weekend, everybody.
🥱 good night! *sets alarm for March*

@ai6yr @michaelgemar You need a logo
@Catawu @michaelgemar LOL okay, if I put a label on the stuff I sewed, do I use my radio callsign or actually put my name on there 🤪
Are YOUR eyes large, dumb, and brimming with pathos? You may be entitled to compensation!
@ariadne did you succeed though
@q66 enough to make CUDA work. which required modifying the dynamic linker to ignore ifuncs instead of rejecting them, and a lot of the functions added to gcompat were from that effort

I’m a bit out of my depth here and the plumber doesn’t know either. I have a combi boiler with OpenTherm support. What thermostat/controller should I get if I am a typical Mastodon user, i.e. don’t want to use some proprietary app, someone else’s cloud, or pay a subscription for my own hardware?
@Gargron @Fizzfizzpopop well, it’s not helping you, but this has reminded me that I should do something about the bricked gen-2 Nest thermostat we have…
And it turns out that there’s a OSS firmware and self-hostable server combo I can spin up 🙌 https://nolongerevil.com/
Do you read alt text on images to find the hidden jokes?
I wonder if at this exact moment one could succeed in filing a issue against an open source project for an entirely ficticious vulnerability, get it assigned a CVE and a github score, and then get the upstream project to accept your patch for the vulnerability, with all these things presented as the issue, the CVE, and the PR being written by generative AI, but in fact you wrote them substantially by hand and the patch for your nonexistent vuln is actually a backdoor
