@Gargron get a normal thermostat. What does OpemTherm have to do with anything? Do you already have an automation system? I assume not?

They don’t need to choose a platform. They have to be forced to put all public-facing communication onto their website without exception. From there, they or anyone else who wants to can copy it to any platform there is.

I've spent a while look at different embedded languages. Just in general, but also with an eye to use with #cow

I initially looked at #wren -- it's excellent:

I just didn't like its core OO approach.

I had looked at #lua, but well, meh...

Then #toylang turned up and it looked amazing.

I've hacked it about a bit to try and make some of its state more persistent, and have just sent those patches to the author. We'll see If they get anywhere.

Even if they don't -- small, VM-based embedded languages like this are so cool, and if you look, there's a plethora of them out there in different states of development.

@irina I've always sung soprano and as a child sung the descant. I definitely can't sing that high any more but not sure if I've aged out of it physically or just due to lack of practice.

@Gargron Do you have a local home assistant setup? You can probably find a thermostat with Zigbee/Z-wave/Thread/Matter and control it locally and enable remote access (if desired) via tailscale or similar.
