Remember, remember!

The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

@datarama @cohentheblue can you two have your discussion with tagging me the whole time? this is very annoying

@wackJackle The conclusion by a mind so afraid of not being considered "electable" by the absolute worst people, rich or poor, that any accusation of leftism or progressiveness spells doom.

This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.

Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).

What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.

Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.

Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.

Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.

Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.

If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.

I hope we all have fun. Cheers!

Decent piece from last summer arguing why the Senate Dems should dump the filibuster, which they can do by simple majority vote: https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/why-the-filibuster-absolutely-has-to-go

@cohentheblue @aesthr I am *trashed* after work. After the LLM mandate I've basically given up on doing anything more demanding than playing brainless video games, because I'm too exhausted to focus on anything. It is an extremely exhausting way to work.

I've been unemployed before; I spent most of my youth unemployed and well under the relative poverty line. Unfortunately I'm not as healthy physically as I was when I was young either.

thinking a lot about the concept of "chair stacking" today, and its power in organizing online communities https://www.jonafato.com/2024/12/20/stacking-chairs

Pokud zaměstnanci Škody Auto nedostanou odpovídající odměnu za práci, mohli by omezit flexibilitu a dobrovolné přesčasy, uvedl předseda podnikové rady odborů KOVO Jaroslav Povšík.

New, from me:

Several staffers at the White House are using computers or mobile devices equipped with residential proxy services that render their internet address available for others to rent, security experts warned today. One of the proxy services is a Russian company whose founder’s web hosting business was ground zero for cyberattacks against election systems in Arizona and Illinois in 2016.

AI companies need to be held accountable.
a small "may make mistakes" is not enough.

Since yesterday, I've blocked nearly 100 IP addresses which had requested a hidden directory blocked by robots.txt - the graph already shows a dramatic fall in data transfer.

B⁶ is, as the name suggests, a blunt tool. But it's effective. I'll release the source code once I've tidied it up.

Some bots, like intricle-image-extractor are obvious scrapers, but most spoof common browsers. I half wish OSes would cryptographically sign their requests so you knew it came from a genuine device.
