Also one of the most important things that spread black culture is World War II. Without it you don't have soldiers, especially black soldiers, bringing their music over from the states. Without that seeping into the culture you don't have British rock. And without that you don't have American bands hearing it and reinterpreting it to make their own music. Myself included. That interplay has been critical to all music since WW2, including techno.
@changterhune Black American music even influenced African music! If you haven't listened to the amazing podcast about Fela Kuti from last year (I think), check it out, it has some amazing stories about that (among other things).
Google will let schools skip AI tools, but they have to give up search, too
Google will offer schools AI tools that allegedly don't give away the answers.

@arstechnica it isn't as if their search is worthwhile anymore.
It's an opportunity.
Some lollum indexing service thingamabob sent me an email, that they have picked one of my github repos to be included into their fancy index. Whee? Wha? Here's the kicker: they picked one commit from the whole history, of course the one that is the least important ("update sample scenes"), but in their mind it is "substantial piece of work" lol, "about 1400 lines of json". Note: there's no json anywhere there.
Singularity is just around the corner, I say! Singularity of stupidity.
@aras If only stupidity was singular
@ai6yr @StumpyTheMutt I hate synthetics, fraying is always an issue and melting or fray checking the edges looks like crap on repairs.
@T2R @StumpyTheMutt Yeah, I may have to make a backpack, and make it canvas instead of synthetic. (this is a backpack I use mostly bicycling). It's not holding up very well... Jansport, even. UV damage plus any friction and I have to repair things. Supposed to be "better quality" but....
@gardiner_bryant
They have to be at the very end of the post
@gamingonlinux
@gregandcin @gamingonlinux huh. I'm seeing other hashtags at the end of posts (including my own) that don't do this. Strange!
I just realized that political ads where people are fully AI generated probably don't need to have the "paid actor" disclaimer in them.
Boxnoggin got EVERYTHING he wanted on walkies… and even some bonus items! (Which I, being Unjust and Crool, did not allow him to bring home. We’ve got all the carrion we need, thanks.)
@PhoenixSerenity @britt They're killing people with this, it's awful. I really really hope they caught your mom's cancer early enough 💜
So those ads that are like, "I'm a lifelong Democrat in favor of voter suppression" can be entirely a non-existent person without a disclaimer.
Take 3d12 warmth damage
@dpsbot me at the end of a studio ghibli movie
I’ve been syndicating my blog to MSN News since forever. Yesterday I published a post to my linkblog that points out MSN Copilot cited a random site by a right-wing guy in 75% of its election-related answers. This morning I coincidentally received an email informing me I’m kicked off of MSN. Fun!
So I got a call from my dad today telling me that someone called social services worried that he wasn't taking good care of himself. He wanted to know if I had called them.
I hadn't.
Some days his memory is fine, others it isn't. Today it wasn't. Which meant the phone number and name of the social worker who came to visit, did not work. So I had to call the hotline and I got the email address of the director in charge of senior social services in his county. I sent off an inquiry message asking for services that could help him and what the determination of the visit resulted in.
Because my father is in Indiana, and I'm in California, the only thing I can do to help him is make phone calls. I have power of attorney for his finances but that's a hard thing to manage and enforce when he wants to be in control of everything and he hasn't been found incompetent.
I can only do what I can, but that doesn't make things easier for him or for me. I'm trying my best to remain objective but it's not easy.
I think next year if he can't get into the assisted living facility that he's on a waiting list for, eventually social services is going to step in and put him somewhere.
And the thing is, he's known for a few years that his memory was getting worse and did nothing to plan for it. He says today that at 80 he's done. He doesn't care if he lives anymore. He says he's not suicidal but feels "if it's over, it's over" as he puts it. He's just waiting to die.
And now I have to wait for a social service person to contact me.
Fun times.

What are we all stress eating tonight as we watch the U.S. midterm results come in? Here's @span Sporked's ranking of salty/sweet snacks. What's your choice (select as many as you like!).
@PhoenixSerenity seriously. and they already elected another NatPo columnist (Margereta Dovgal) in the riding next to me. she was running editorials saying David Eby's time is up WHILE running for office which just shows you how little they have any standards lol

@carkner I am wishing & hoping they'll speed up the infighting & start ripping each other apart before end of December. We can dream.
oh yeah i forgot to follow up: we're on 4.7.5, probability 1:1, I'd say normality has been restored but we all know better than that.
