If you’ve ever wondered how software works and why it’s weird, I wrote an airport book just for you! I finally got to hold it in my hot little hands last week, and it smells like a book and everything. 😊 Preorders are open, US drop date Dec 1! Just in time for the holidays! (links in next post). 1/2

Both fediverse softwares that support user reviews for books, both have RSS support natively (no Piefed/Misskey bridge needed), and some comments also seem discontent with Amazon's mismanagement overall.

This wouldn't have caused any real harm beyond incorrect logging without UBSan but it's good the issue was found with it. Due to finding this issue, we checked all other uses of the USB PD enum types in the Pixel drivers and fixed fast charging for chargers with AVS support too.

@sand Ah, I always get them together, but I've also never had any side effects from either aside from a minor soreness in the arm.

@Jer @dogfox @henryk @davidgerard altman is a compartmentalizer, a rationalizer. pure ideology-of-the-self. he could vanish in a puff of black smoke any moment. musk is fully identity-fused, and a catastrophizer; tear off the mask and his face and cartilage come with it. you can see it in his political donation history, he really does think we're going to execute him once his people are out of power.

This was caught by the UBSan bounds sanitizer which is used in trapping mode in production as a hardening feature. It's an out-of-bounds read beyond a read-only global constant so MTE isn't really since those aren't separately tagged. We added the new types and a bounds check.

@georgetakei President Drumpf says what about a candidate's name?

@hbons given my handwriting that would be super secure, it has encryption included. Pity though I can’t read it myself.

ArchiveOfOurOwn (AKA AO3, run by the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW)) has been down for a few days due to a security incident. In the wake of that security incident, a site called AO3.life has cropped up. At some point, they scraped what appears to be most (if not all ... I've got no way to check that myself) of the fics on AO3 including ones that were only available to logged-in users.

In addition to providing these fics (some of which were specifically not intended for broader consumption) on their site, they're trying to get readers to pay for audio editions of the stories.

They have some dodgy and technically impossible steps if you are an AO3 author and want to take your fics down.

OTW is aware and is taking legal action but they warn that the legal system is slow. They advise that you do not attempt to use AO3.life's requested method since it may expose you to additional dangers regarding your private information.

@Meyerweb

Giving the increasing tendency of desktop applications using their own UI widgets, I'd dare say they are using the new OS standard.

Clients are always asking to style every UI element according with their own designs. The alternative to giving us the ability to style them is us continue making our own implementations. No joke.

Allowing us to style form inputs means better accessibility, and maybe even the ability to disable CSS and have a functional page.

There’s a few cross folk in here, whose comments (I can’t pretend don’t hurt a bit!) do disagree. I’ll just have to have a think how I share on here going forward. The last thing I want to do is annoy anyone, but it takes a user all of 2 seconds to click on my profile here and see I’m deeply invested in the fediverse and have been on Lemmy for years now.

I appreciate your comment, thank you for saying so!

@ai6yr And that pic is from 1986.

Gabriel's parents were my father's housemates. I've known him my whole life; he's been a major influence on my career path. His Troma colleagues set up a GoFundMe for him. Fuck cancer.
