So the liberal / left Labour Party - our saviours from the cruelty and excesses of Tories - have decided people should live in this country for ten years before they can put down roots.
Ten years of constant employment. Ten years of the Home Office peering into people's marriages. Ten years of not being able to return home to be an emergency career for a parent. Ten years of being unable to get credit. Ten years with constant uncertainty. Ten years of extremely reduced freedom of speech. Ten years of an absolute maximum of 20 days leave per year.
I really, really wish that all these people clicking "Block and Report" spam on all these political texts would uncover a massively abused texting or cell phone spam ring that gets shut down after the election. 😒
Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Swamp Puppy Pin. It is technically legal to have a service alligator, but only if you live in Florida. And you do not need to be disabled to have one, because legally speaking, being from Florida is a disability.

Having immigration officials peer at your relationship is kind of a similar pressure to lodging with your spouse's mum.
I've experienced both things and I'd go back to being a lodger with my mother in law over having to deal with the Home Office.
Labour is mandating a ten years of a suspended adolescence where your marriage can constantly be upended and your life isn't your own.
And for who? What good does it bring to the country if Brits married to migrants have to suffer?
@hyc cosigned! It seems like pure tedium, but it's actually very valuable to type stuff in out of a manual, because the boredom drives you to think about what you're typing, and gives you practice debugging simple syntax problems with a known-good reference program.
I think a (solvable) problem today is that back in the day, hardware platforms just did more for you. As someone who got into computers post-2000 originally, it was actually mindblowing to get into retro stuff and discover "oh the hardware would render text for you. And sprites. And if you wanted to know the joystick position you'd just read this memory location." You can do advanced stuff close to the metal when this is your metal. #uxn is a good modern counterpart in a lot of ways.
One of the damaging ways software "ate the world" (Andreesennnn!) is that these features moved upwards for portability, and now you need a lot of software between you and the anemic hardware.
This has been a thing for years now. It's cute and weird and also annoying. There's no stopping her. When she hears the exercise mat being rolled out, she comes running from wherever she was and stands there, waiting for me to bump my head against her back over and over again. Perhaps she's like one of those dogs that help people having seizures avoid hitting their heads on the floor?

@marcel dog does this too.
@gvwilson I was surprised to see that one of the original Fortran authors, Lois Haibt, is still with us https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lois_Haibt - tho at her age I'd settle for a cup of tea not a party.
Electric trucks made up 50.3% of all heavy trucks sold in China in September. China’s diesel demand is on track to fall by about 230,000 barrels per day this year.
@healyn yeah, “do you the guy on the Newman’s Own bottle fucks?” Buddy, more than you could possibly know
@ai6yr I don't trust any of the gauge reports on the Wundermap under 5 inches for today so far.
This morning between 7:30-9:00 am my mom emptied this old school gauge she keeps in the flower bed. Ugh. And then there's the pond growing in the backyard.
Guess I'm not going to the hardware store today.
@femme_mal Yikes! I don't trust my electronic gauge, I go by an old school one I bought because the electronic one under or over-counts significantly... not reliable.
You can always tell people who are too poisoned from Facebook and Twitter because they'll pop up in your responses trying to argue with you and are shocked when you just automatically block them rather than engage with them. They view social media purely as a means to argue with strangers.
Incredible stuff from @violetblue this week - as is often the case, maybe, but this is next level. #Covid #Covid19
"The limitation that helped make the iPod obsolete, that it did little more than play music, has now become part of its appeal for people seeking an escape from permanently connected smartphones," writes Alice Gibb for @Newsweekdotcom. Here's her story on the rise and fall and rise of iPods.

This is likely why intentional movement has mainly felt like punishment for me. Before the aha moment, basically all intentional movement, mostly forced by other people growing up (thanks P.E., thanks mom), was for external purposes like losing weight 😭 or a required school thing. And in the little years, psychological safety absolutely made me not feel physically safe to fall or get scraped up. Poor little me! It's so sad for a child to not enjoy movement & to be faced with such external & societal pressures. NO WONDER DEMAND AVOIDANCE!
So now, at age 34, I'm finally equipped to purposefully dismantle all this & rebuild my relationship w movement. I wish it didn't happen this way. I wish as a little neurodivergent person, my caretakers had enough insight or ability to encourage & support me in ways that led to happy movement, happy physical discovery, less societal pressures, less sensory overwhelm, more acceptance & positive encouragement instead of external pressure & demand.
