Hi,

After getting forum.retrolemmy.com running with lemmyBB, I wondered if Retrofed could get something similar. Instead of getting lemmyBB (an ancient software for lemmy) to work through a proxy, we created a new frontend made natively for PieFed: PieBB. PieBB is more feature complete than lemmyBB and lighter on the server.

Note: This project was created with the help of an LLM.

It’s live at forum.retrofed.com, and makes PieFed look and work like an old phpBB2 forum. You log in with your normal Retrofed account. Posting, voting, polls, PMs, notifications and moderation all work, and you can even import (some) old phpBB2 themes.

If you notice any bugs, you can message me, or reply here.

If you want to use it yourself, it’s at Github. Tested on PieFed 1.8.x.

Known limitations:

• Register sends you to Retrofed’s own sign-up page.
• The index (Last Post, counts) can be a few minutes behind, to keep API calls down.
• Votes made on Retrofed itself can take up to 10 minutes to show in PieBB, due to a cache in PieFed.

More "boring" service providers who are content with a modest profit margin and slow organic growth, please. I don't even care if the UI looks "dated" and new features take a long time to be built. Traditional boring bare metal, only add new customers when you have capacity to support it, whatever.

A company of 50+ year old tech veterans who have been laid off and left behind from age discrimination just looking to keep the bills paid until retirement.

Run it like a co-op, like a little credit union that isn't looking to expand quickly, just serve their little niche of the community.

Grew up Catholic. Sunday mass every week. Catholic school for 12 years, where every Friday we attended mass. Mass every holy day of obligation. Three years an altar boy as a youngster, so many daily masses, funeral masses, wedding masses. Up until the age of 19 when I moved out of the family home, every Sunday due to family pressure. 19 years of indoctrination ultimately led to abandonment of the dogma. There were values instilled, but harmful ideas, as well.
