@ajroach42 aren't you running a bookshop? I suppose you haven't heard of https://bookpile.org/suggest? At least I can't find anything in Georgia over in https://codeberg.org/bitboxer/bookpile/src/branch/main/priv/data/websites.json
@patrick I am running a bookstore, but I haven't heard of it.
Hey there, still offering commissions. Pick your own price. I'm by no means a good artist, but I think my work is cute enough. I'm trying to save up to buy a gift for someone, so that's pretty important to me, but I'm not like. Dying for cash or anything.
Up to you.
Let me know if you're interested. Here's a few examples of my past works.
did I back out of setting up an account on the Haystack job board when it said it'll have their chatbot write my cover letter because I refuse to use genAI on principle? or because I know how angry I'll be if a slopware cover letter is what gets me a job?
@aeva i feel confident they were saying enabling `resistFingerprinting` causes the problem and disabling it fixes it
@mcc it seems likely
@zzt I'm calling for an immediate moratorium on FOSS companies being allowed to use social media. This level of dipshit brinksmanship will only end in armageddon.
OK, not a fan of spiders here, but with Halloween right around the corner — and the spider probably hiding in a corner behind you — it’s appropriate to highlight the spider named after Stephen Colbert that has a genome 50% larger than the human genome. Phys.org has more, including where you can find these creatures lurking.
I try not to over-react to the Internet's Outrages Of The Day, but it should be instantly disqualifying for a CEO of a company that sells reliability and security to tell employees that careful testing is "loser thinking". And if not, it should instantly disqualify that company's products from your consideration.
What the hell, Proton?
@mattblaze The Proton debacle is a nightmare - I had just started trialing it to replace US software vendors, and I feel like I'm living a "frying pan into the fire" moment...
A thing I have never understood is claims that men have trouble "finding the clitoris". What do you mean you have trouble finding it? It's right there! The g-spot is the one that's hard to find! "Oh but sometimes the clitoris is hiding" WELL GO LOOKING FOR IT
@mcc Our society slowly became one where clit owners expect it of their partners and more men care about their partner enjoying sex. Yay feminism!
thunderbird’s paid service is a ridiculously bad value and it’s even more slopped than their free app
you have no reason at all to use it over proton or tuta, because it gives you nothing and costs you more. mozilla’s ethical stance on AI is horrid. mozilla’s management is horrid.
apparently they tagged proton specifically in their advertising on here because they were hoping to trick people leaving proton due to AI into thinking thunderbird and mozilla are anti-AI, an utterly laughable thing that (I am not making a legal accusation here) seems like it approaches false advertising.
given the horseshit we’ve seen from libreoffice and tuta this week or so, it’s a bit obvious what pattern mozilla’s using here because they’re late to the party as usual: they’re implying that thunderbird is a better choice, edging as close as possible (through sly phrasing and tagging proton) to implying it’s due to an AI stance without saying anything at all. they’re hoping we’ll think they’re anti-AI.
What's on the bench tonight?? Well of course it's my gorgeous wee blue key!! Currently working on my latest yellow label game 😎
Anthropic got compromised.
Their Claude Code extension on Visual Studio has malware in it, which creates a remote access Trojan to desktops.
That Sam Altman thinks it’s better if you pay OpenAI for AI services versus hosting your own models is such a non-news story, you might as well post a story saying San Altman likes ice cream and hates getting the flu.
> telepathy
i'm telepathic.
don't believe me? i'll show you.
in the linked essay, i explore the ways that writing facilitates communication, and how it, in fact, fits the definition of "telepathy" as originally conceived. along the way, i touch on the history of the term "telepathy", discuss the reasons why writing is able to achieve this, and provide an epistemological and technical argument for why LLM generated text fails to do the same.
please enjoy!
@LabSpokane Trying to paint anyone who disagrees with you about anything as being right wing and fascist is very lazy. You should come up with better material if you're going to be engaging in libel towards us. Claiming people who are extremely against state and corporate power are fascists is not going to get your far. The best you can do is claiming anyone who disagrees with you is right wing, fascist and watches Fox News. It's sad that you're so deep in an echo chamber and propaganda.
@GrapheneOS
@LabSpokane
Full madd slop is exagerating. GrapheneOS admitted they use LLM for testing for exploits, and some members of their team may use LLM individually.
I'm very thankful for Graphene as an alternative, and still also concerned about LLM use and its capture of creativity and free action. Also, money for libel sounds like wasted money. Also also, of all people to be antagonistic towards, why the Graphene spokesperson?
@mcc tho tbh I don't understand why they bother. Links works fine (and in graphical mode also renders images properly, it's great for reading manuals and such), sixel output can be perfectly used to render images in full resolution (tho scaling beforehand might be necessary, and probably sucks).
@fogti Where are you getting a version of links that supports javascript?
just a reminder, for absolutely no reason, that thunderbird is riddled with slop too and they’re also doing this crap: https://www.thunderbolt.io/ alongside all the rest of the LLM horseshit Mozilla’s doing. here’s their CEO doing a tuta live on mastodon, apparently unaware this was tuta’s exact excuse: https://mastodon.social/@ryanleesipes/117531330039185657
if you weird fuckers want to use our ethical stance (no AI shit at all) to market your crap, you can do it over me yelling at you for pushing AI crap https://mastodon.online/@thunderbird/117530981167604229
All the things you could be protesting against, and this is the one you pick
@jalefkowit that shit is terrifying! I’d protest tbh
@GrapheneOS @LabSpokane I would hope that with that budget you can afford developers that don't use LLMs for code generation 🙏
re: abuse
I've seen some stuff, and have messaged y'all in the past, but is there a central place to read your response to these claims? Or at least one where you specify exactly how you use LLMs at GrapheneOS?
@MonKaiju We posted a thread at https://grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/117236529351603001 covering the topic as a whole to replace several prior discussions about it.
The previous discussions were disrupted by people directed towards it from top level threads with fabrications about us aimed at directing hate towards us. We blocked those accounts from our instance and moved our response to a top-level thread instead. They're lying about what we've said in all those places along with what we're doing. Read it for yourself.

each of the profiles would be their own instance
So each author would need to host their own infrastructure? I’m not sure I follow
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
