Would making bots identify themselves stop harmful scraping?
Not necessarily.
A bot can identify itself and still overwhelm a website. Target harmful behavior, not access, urge Lila Bailey & Tess Vartanian in Tech Policy Press.

@PhoenixSerenity A lucrative comedy podcast with @g1m01982 and @dopaminehouse
@mm @PhoenixSerenity @g1m01982 ahem! Yes, please!
I really need to find an interest that somebody eventually won't fuck up and make perverse!

@stephanie How awful for you. I hope the platelets die off soon & you can warm your feet up.
@PhoenixSerenity Thank you! It's been a week, so it should start getting better next week if I'm not resistant to the medication 🤞
Lighting five candles in memory of Patrick Stewart.

@dgar If there's the slightest suggestion this is insensitive, I think it's probably his finest performance, *including* Shakespearean stuff. Frankly, I think he brought a lot of "crap, we can do Shakespearean stuff?" to the TNG writers.
If you are looking for a good FOSS email client for Android, just fyi, mutt runs fine in termux.
@neil I've found it works best with a keyboard that doesn't try to play too smart.
(and can be taxing on my itty-bitty Jelly Star https://www.unihertz.com/products/jelly-star )
I came across my unused floppy disk labels recently, so I had an idea. All the markers I want to use are at home, though, so it'll get colored later.
Here is this week's #Linux and #OpenSource news video, on a Friday, cause apparently my parents are now in town, and apparently they still like me enough to spend the weekend together.
So, in this one, we have worrying reports about Proton's move towards using A.I. a lot more, we have Ubuntu going all in on Core Desktop, the all snaps version of Ubuntu, and we have a vibe coded Linux compatible kernel, among other things.

@thelinuxEXP what a title
My feet are SO COLD. I was able to warm up my hands, but the erythromelalgia is much more intense in my feet.
Come on, platelets, DIE.
(it takes about 7-10 days for platelets to die, so they're still happily clumping together)

I love how people from the UK say "had done" ... for example.
"He would not agree even if he had done."
I guess what I'm missing here is the "it"
"He would not agree if he had done it."
But more than just being a quirk it has a different kind of spiffy feel to it? "as if you would do" for "as if you'd ever do that"
I wonder if it's regional within the UK, or if it's just the US that's still using the extra words and just where English is going.
@futurebird I don't know what dialect or other variation it is, but I've rarely encountered someone who uses the contraction I've without another verb ("I've plans for tonight"), and it's so interesting to hear.
Andy Yen should be removed as Proton's CEO.
Each time I've had beef with something related to Proton, he's been the one driving it.

It's pretty cool that even bank robbers can WFH in 2026.
“There is a black hole at the heart of that company, and no minor gains that Windows claws back will ever make up for the inescapable gravity of Microsoft products getting shittier over time. They will extract rent from you and your employer at every plausible juncture and give you garbage in exchange. You must accept in your heart that Windows is a lost cause. Once you do, the work begins.”

A comic. I love to make people laugh.
@llamasoft_ox Giles must be gagging for a curry!
@klord especially after all the pasta and rubbish pizza he's had to endure!
i think young people need to be told what a cultural phenomenon it was in the early 2000s to have a rubber fish on your wall that would sing at you and do bits.
@neil but what about the venerable K-9?
