Do you know why programmers always mix up Halloween and Christmas? Because Oct 31 = Dec 25

So I know it’s cheaper for me to sometimes Lyft places than for us to pay for another car with insurance, maintenance, etc. But I look at a $15 ride and feel financially irresponsible and then don’t go anywhere? What is the psychology term for this 😅
@lynnandtonic I’m on the other side of this when I have to do repairs on our two vehicles and think “surely we could rideshare or rent when needed and life would be cheaper.” 😆
The bullets, they took the Mickey out of me....

@ai6yr I had no idea. I just thought Ryan and Max were holding different food items as an escalating joke between one another, which would be entertaining.
@xan I don't know if Max is going deepfake verification, or if he's egging on Ryan 😂
“Let’s set that aside for a moment” whenever discussing failings, impacts, and costs of LLMs is such an offensive dismissal of human harms that I am surprised to hear it from an accessibility-focused session chair at TPAC (not today; time-delayed to obfuscate person / session).
@aardrian I’m not surprised. W3C Members are LLM peddlers, and so there is appeasement, because sticking to their guns would mean less funding for W3C. As someone who seen how the sausage is made, a lot of W3C policy is driven by the fear to lose members.

If you had a firm policy about these things, there wouldn't have been a need for me to spend a chunk of my morning and 8GB space hunting it down in someone else's codebase.
And yes, you should have. The committer would have either:
1. Gone away, and they're not your liability anymore.
2. Put in the weaning-off-LLMs work you've talked about, because those are the community standards for everyone's benefit.
3. Tried to sneak something past you, but you would have done your due diligence and not been liable for it. And if the problem came to light later, well, we've already had a conversation about how to deal with that.
Because plenty of other projects have solved this problem after recognizing that it's the same as all existing copyright attribution problems in open source.
Some people will try to sneak things in, like sneaking into a conversation the assumption that people will always pick that 3rd option. Sneakiness is so distasteful, isn't it?
@MaddieM4 You'll notice from the conversation in the commit that our team evaluated the code and provided advice so with or without disclosure due diligence is surely covered.
I understand that you prefer not to see the disclosure but that's how things stand at present.

Winter sets in:
Other animals: "I think we'll hibernate until Spring"
Humans: "Let's change the time so we can work longer hours! Also, isn't it great we have lights so we can work longer hours, get up way before the sun is up, and work inside our little caves until the sun has set?"
@ai6yr Truth
so i know some people require dark themes, some require light themes, and some require high contrast themes. it follows that there must be people who require low-contrast themes? is that you...?

I used to be a fierce advocate of low-contrast themes (to the extent that I ported Zenburn to the console) but eventually I realized that was because I was keeping my monitor way too bright. Nowadays my biggest problem is monitors that don't get dim enough.

@xan Yeah, I don't know either. And you'd think at some point there will be enough video of these folks waving around bananas and whatnot the deepfake generators will have lots of data.
@ai6yr I had no idea. I just thought Ryan and Max were holding different food items as an escalating joke between one another, which would be entertaining.
SO if your not familiar with the episode; Picard and crew ends up rescuing a giant captive malnourished space jellyfish, after another giant space jellyfish shows up pissed the first, is malnourished and in captivity.
At the very end of the episode, the two giant space jellyfish meet; and touch tentacles. AND Picard even has a line that they must be "Mates".
HOW Picard jumps to this conclusion is left unsaid. Obviously the space jellyfish know each other, but it's not obvious their relationship isn't parent <-> child , or sibling <-> sibling, but whatever.
On this particularly rewatch however, I was like: "HUH, I don't remember this giant space jellyfish being this pink."
(continued)
(continuing)
I didn't think much about it. Except I went spelunking online on Memory Alpha, for extra behind the scenes tidbits on the episode. (As I often do. )
AND Memory Alpha pointed out to me, that both giant space jellyfish were much more BLUE in the original release. The remaster for the BluRay DELIBERATELY changed the coloring of one of these creatures.
NOW; im pretty sure no one thought the space jellyfish were gay back in 1987
BUT someone or some group of someones were awfully concerned these space jellyfish were not presenting as straight back when they did these BluRay remasters circa 2012.
AND that disappoints and frustrates me greatly.
