@neil I was looking for something similar this time last year (LG not Daikin, ESPHome not Tasmota): Found nothing that fit the bill exactly, but I did find a compromise I could work with.
The Broadlink RM4 series (both Mini and Pro versions)
It's the wrong microcontroller, so it can't be reflashed, but first-time setup can be performed without the app (by using a small Python package), and there is an integration in HA that works well, if not as user friendly as it could be.
@Seen_Canary Thanks! I had looked at one of these, but I wasn't sure.
I don’t intend to call out anyone on here with this, but it’s important to reflect:
- I was told that both the slop PHP patch and the slop kernel patchset were high quality code with very few telltale signs of slop
- both of them had a bunch of telltale signs of slop (and again I’m really not trying to call anyone out for this, please consider this a postmortem)
- both were rushed through with very little to no understanding of the problem they were solving
- both were highly publicized but solved little to nothing: the linux patchset was flawed and decreased performance outside of microbenchmarks, and the php patch fixed an issue that was hard-to-impossible to exploit in practice with a gigantic number of slop-looking changes when another fix (abort on OOM now and gradually patch exploitable cases) was available, but nobody considered it because nobody considered anything
just some things to consider going forward. you absolutely don’t gotta hand it to any of these people.

SK Hynix’s latest earnings are wild.
Revenue grew 328% YoY to $79B while operating profit jumped 632% to $63B. That’s an 80% operating margin!
AI data center demand is driving a memory shortage. SK Hynix says demand for high bandwidth memory is 2x supply and expects shortages through 2030.

Morning Sheep Time
Grey start, sheep damp from overnight drizzle, precluding any real cuddles. Biscuits went in as usual. Buster perhaps needing a spray on a back hoof, or quite possibly he's just sprained something through clonking shenanigans, wouldn't surprise me.

‘Someone’s stealing your bit’, I’m told. Ahh. After a long day of work though, at the Bene Gesserit Pain Box Factory, I wonder if someone couldn’t steal my bit for good?
@liamvhogan They’re not stealing all your bits. Just your most significant one. Which makes it a sign.

To ease the transition for new users, #NetBSD -current now includes an alternative editor to vi(1) and xedit(1) in its base system, atto(1). https://man.netbsd.org/atto.1
It is a modeless screen-based editor similar to nano, pico, xedit, or emacs. It is only 48 kilobytes, making it suitable for inclusion in the rescue system.
(This is real, but I'm honestly missing an opportunity by not posting it on 1 April. Let the editor wars commence!)
Test from bloatfe with Dillo.
Recently noticed that someone had bundled Bloat, a web client targeted at Pleroma, for Yunohost. I don't think it's in development anymore, but so what?
The Yunohost setup creates a broken Bloat configuration file, but fixing the line with your own domain helps.
Unfortunately Dillo is not a good choice for this, because it doesn't seem to support frames. But it it possible to view the timeline and write a toot by manually navigating to the corresponding frames.
