So, Dictionary.com's "word of the year" is a less literate way of saying "Too much is always better than not enough".
If anyone wants to help with my "Alonzo" visual functional programming language...
I'll welcome contributions to the core, or if you want to tackle more tangential we don't need to coordinate as much on...
How about a Lua CRDT library? Pure-Lua implementation would aid porting.
Or a functional JIT (which could eventually run Alonzo programs) would be neat! Ensuring speed is less of a reason to switch to a "real" programming language.
As Alonzo comes together I'll ask for more.

@lothar @Yewa iodéOS greatly rolls back privacy and security compared to the Android Open Source Project. It lags far behind on privacy/security patches and protections. It isn't a reasonably safe option and doesn't provide what it's marketed as doing.
The badness enumeration approach you're talking about doesn't protect against the most privacy invasive behaviors by apps and services. It's easy to bypass and increasingly doesn't work. There are also better open source implementations for free.

Apple iPhone Duo review: Two screens, two experiences, two thousand dollars
I respect Apple's first crack at a foldable phone, but I'm not sure I like it.

@arstechnica long story short: it's shit
AI people absolutely have sexual predator vibes.
Dude. No means no.
Not ‘I’ll ask again later.
Not ‘Remind me again in the future’
Not ‘But this time it’s different’
No.
Just fucking go away.
The simplest way to tax billionaires is to appropriate the businesses they own. Nationalizing the fossil fuel industry would create a mechanism to wind down its operations. Industries like healthcare and education should be public. Amazon should be a national service. Internet access should be a public utility.
@benlockwood Do you see any drawbacks there, or is it just nationalize everything and let the permanent golden age begin?

The #IncelQaida mindset carries over into organizational culture, too....
A #predator is a predator--in the boardroom OR the bedroom.

Autonomous drones following running people through the woods, without GPS. Developed, with military funds, at a public university.
This is not dual use anymore, this is single use. There is only one use here.
Sometimes I worry that I'm becoming a negative Nancy with all my ethics talk, and then I see colleagues proudly post this kind of thing without a single acknowledgment of the implications.
I am low k panicking right now.
This is really really not good.
This will fuck the rest of the world so hard over. The world needs these big US AI corpos not to persist.
Oh my god
AI policy
I have a strong need to disobey, so I often eat things labeled "Do not eat" or "Not for human consumption". Today I ironed something I was wearing because the iron manual said "Do not iron clothes while wearing them". Was careful not to burn myself though.
@fesshole DON'T GIVE ME A HUNDRED QUID. HONESTLY, IT'S THE WORST THING YOU COULD DO...

When designing web pages, what's your default approach? (and please stick to the context. I don't need yet another CSS framework discussion ;)
@jwildeboer I am an Old and still haven't really gotten in the habit of using Flexbox (or Grid) yet. I've learned in general how they work (and played lots of Flexbox Froggy in the process, which was genuinely helpful!), but _by default_, my brain still goes for divs with stuff like width and float properties and suchlike. The way we did it back in 2018 or so.
Yes, I need to update my brain. I think I'll probably go for Grid; it looks pretty cool.
