Mamdani made a big reference to Avatar the Last Airbender in a recent speech. It was a pretty deep reference, but also not a particularly fan-servicey one or very interesting to non fans. He's just that big a nerd.
Mozilla: Hmm…what do people want?
People: a browser
Mozilla: a social bookmarking service!
People: we want a browser.
Mozilla: A New Tab ✨experience✨
People: Just a browser.
Mozilla: Colorways! Buy a limited time color!
People: Please make a good browser.
Mozilla: People want AI! AI superpowers!
People: A browser. To show webpages.
Mozilla: Remember those older memes? Don’t they remind you of how things were before the web went to shit?
People: From back when you made a browser?

Even if they aren’t. The interface isn’t that bad. More just different. It takes some adjustment. Although they’re 100% is an old threaded like interface for lemmy at least.
The PieFed UI is strange but more or workable, aside from some things like trying to view a downvote count being incredibly difficult and sometimes impossible. Try writing a long comment in a Lemmy browser interface - it jumps and skips wildly every time you make another key press, it’s horrible. Though it looks beautiful when you use it read-only.
Voyager offers a much nicer UX. Though then 90% of PieFed extra features aren’t workable, with 100% of them being inaccessible from within the app.
This place is hella confusing to non-technical normies.

This is your annual reminder that it used to be a cherished Halloween tradition for kids to fill socks with flour and run around whacking strangers with them
"In response to this increasingly dangerous pranking, cities across the country tried to move Halloween indoors under adult supervision and recast it as a holiday for younger kids. By the middle of the century, politicians got involved."

US officials want Section 702 renewed before damaging court ruling goes public
Senators say officials hid a ruling on warrantless searches past its release deadline.

were you doing web stuff when #CSS border-radius didn't exist?
@hbons There were just straight corners back then, and kids were being more careful and would not run and hit their heads against them for no reason. Rounded corners is a sign of a degraded society ;-)
o time do wafrn responde a bug report/fix rápido demais porque já temos espirito do janonismo cultural antes de ser pop então se tu achar estranho as respostas rápidas, aviso tá dado.

@erincandescent imo it's kind of a shame that the bluesky crowd are kind of annoying, since it's really put me off the tech (then again the mastodon crowd are their own kind of annoying, I suppose!)
@eta@eta.st at this particular moment in time my bluesky feed is curated in such a way as to be nicer than my fedi feed.
(one of the reasons I've been doing more ATProto related work)
Refreshing to see on a room-service menu.
@pluralistic Vienna is the best.

@siracusa Sounds promising, but it gives me a 404: Not Found page
@Leonick Whoops, sorry. I gave you the wrong URL! Try this:

(Again, replacing {id} as described earlier.)
EDIT: It seems I got things wrong here. I'm sorry about that. I'm sorry for spreading misinfo here, and relieved to hear there wasn't a ToS change. https://mastodon.art/@waynedixon/117509748411999791

If you are a #blender person who has assets, code, extensions on SuperHive (formerly Hive Market), know that there was a terms of service update that gives them permission to sell your work for training to LLM companies.
You can opt out, but it's hidden, and the announcement was buried. https://blenderartists.org/t/creators-starting-today-superhive-sells-your-products-to-ai/1656000
@cwebber thank you for the edit and clarity! Far too many people lack that kind of integrity.

Celebrating a milestone for Rehearsalio! We're hosting the ticketing for Montreal's Ensemble Musica Lucis! Over the past few months, their director has been using Rehearsalio to organize their 2026-27 musical season.
From rehearsal scheduling and library management to program planning, I've been thrilled to help support their creative process.
If you are part of a musical ensemble, have a look at Rehearsalio here: https://rehearsalio.app
I've had an account note on Graham Perrin for a while now, that's apparently migrated with his jumping between instances. In addition to mod abuse shit and hostile AI-pusher engagements, he's also used the R slur.
@dalias I was like, who is that unpleasant account now... oh it's Graham Perrin.
It has now been nearly 18 hours since I have had to recompile a new version of php. THIS STORY IS DEVELOPING
@jwz Pretty 💩 Home Page
@alisynthesis "More info" you say? You know what's 50 times more difficult than live improvisational experimental music performance? Documenting it. And what's even more difficult than that is remembering where I saved the pictures and videos that kind audience members sent me.
I'll try 🥲
@ranjit haha I FEEL THAT. I'm still not sure if I remembered to press the record button on my mixer at my show last week. We'll probably never know.
