Uh-oh. You promoted voting. Time for all the dbzer0 and .ml chodes to show up and tell you why you shouldn’t do that.

Which, of course, is all the more reason to vote. If you do the opposite of anything anyone from either of those instances say, you are almost assuredly doing the right thing.

If you sit on the fence as the fence burns down, you’ll end up in the dirt with everyone else.

Seeking an "itinerant cookbook" (or just a recipe or 2). Maybe a hikers cookbook would be useful. I'm living in vacation homes, Airbnbs, where if I'm lucky I have oil, salt, & pepper, an oven, 2 burners, & limited cookware. I should be able to figure this out myself, but it's been a long time since I've been well. I get overwhelmed at the store. Spaghetti is something I could make automatically but I haven't wanted it. I'm not opposed to buying fresh herbs, I don't want to buy stuff I'll waste.

Anfang Oktober hatten Angreifer einige Tage lang Zugriff auf 333 Tor Exits. Sie veränderten die Exit Policy zugunsten von unverschlüsseltem Mail-Verkehr und haben SSH-Verbindungen umgeleitet.

Even more #alternateFridayMusic 🎉

and the cue this week is: #remix

I couldn't choose which version was best, so I'll leave it up to you to choose which version you prefer:

Crass - So What (If It's Reggae?) (Neale Muldowney Remix)

or

Crass - So What (CHRØMATIKA remix 2022)

Another classic punk track re-imagined. The latter remix has a great video to go with it

Which is why it’s a bad analogy to apply to real world situations. It only helps trap people into thinking the problem is unsolvable because that’s the way the system works, when in reality if the system is making you choose between things like genocide abroad or fascism at home, you should just change the system.

Aw, man - RIP Tom Skerrit. So many roles, from MASH onwards, six decades of a career, but to many of us, always Dallas, Captain of the Nostromo in the iconic Alien (which he nearly turned down until he heard Scott was directing it)

Rant

I don’t think you can for most people that is what is so infuriating right? In my experience people who are entrenched in Discord are completely and utterly entrenched in it, to the point that I have lost contact with a lot of these people effectively since I don’t use Discord.
The important choice was with all the community leaders who decided to make the move to Discord at crucial moments where they could have NOT done that.
I think any shift off of Discord is also going to have to come from community leaders of organizations, projects, game development communities etc… deciding to move off the platform at crucial decision points.
However, and this is something people who happily pushed their entire lives onto Discord would confidently tell me we could easily do if Discord got bad, everyone isn’t just going to straight up leave once they have built their entire digital communication around Discord…
Now I frequently see game developers complain that they can’t accurately get a picture of their playerbase because large categories of players aren’t on their discord!! and I have to keep my palm from blowing a hole through my face when the two loudly meet.
The brainworms are so bad that these developers will conclude the issue is with their playerbase not wanting to use Discord instead of it being an issue with DEVELOPERS DECIDING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR PLAYERBASE WITH A SHITTY, EXCLUSIONARY TOOL THAT HAS AWFUL SEARCH.
I can’t express how much this gets under my skin, it is like this assumption that if you are even slightly a gamer than you are on Discord all the damn time has become rheified and cemented into place so rigidly that developers are literally tossing away large swaths of their playerbase feedback because they refuse to use a different tool to get feedback and communicate with their community. No forum, no custom website, nothing, Discord or bust.
I have seen the effects in games like Battlebit where it is clear that the developers were catering to only a small subsection of the playerbase that was very active and prominent on Discord and it ended up torpedoing the game because changes kept happening that clearly signalled to large portions of the playerbase that they were basically invisible to the developers.
I have watched this problem, stewing in my frustration, evolve from a minor personal annoyance to being a serious systematic issue causing community organization to become dysfunctional and broken because Discord is clearly a shitty tool for that community (that clearly a lot of people refuse to use or check regularly)… and YET everybody in those communities behaves like it was always a foregone conclusion that the community would have to move to Discord, that is just the way it is.
screams into void
Gamers are so confidently stupid.
Also before anyone says “well it is a good tool for communicating with friends in a DnD group or something” … yes I know it is good for that, you know why I know that it is good for that? Because that is the easiest usecase for any communication and organizational tool to tackle, Discord isn’t good at this usecase, it is just a laughably easy usecase compared to how mindbendingly difficult it is to wrangle larger communities of… not necessarily friends.

ive started doing random verbal trivia checks at work on people at work to confirm that they know some critical baseline knowledge requirements for doing certain tasks (haha among us reference)

nobody can answer them????????

its not like "if X and Y and Z then what values must you know by heart", but rather, if X, then what do you have to pay attention to/double check in finalizing financial documents?

like the question will be: "If the minimum value of X in any situation is at least 4, never less, and the value is now Y, what will X be"

they wont even blink before they answer "X is now 2"

FUCK i JUST said it 1 second before the simple question itself type shit

humanity is hopeless to survive without leadership, make me dictator of the world

Re-read the part about the cyclical nature of elections vs the one-off nature or the choice in the Trolley Problem.

Elections in a fucked up anti-Democratic power-duopoly electoral system like the one in the US are a lot more like a Cyclical Ultimatum Game between voters and the party supposedly closest to their own principles and very little like a Trolley Problem. A “punish now to get a better choice offered in a later round” strategy is not only viable but often the best choice in a Cyclical Ultimatum Game, i.e. when the side that has to accept or reject the candidate put forward is offered a bad one and they know they will play the same role (i.e. vote) in later rounds, but it is not at all a valid or even possible strategy in a Trolley Problem.

The relentless insistence in framing it as a Trolley Problem and thus as a unique once-in-a-lifetime choice which will result in a forever the same outcome that cannot be changed (yet another way it differs from a Trolley Problem - you can change the choice every 4 years), rather than a situation were punishing those choosing the available candidates in one round can change which candidates they put forward in the next round, is a self-serving piece of propaganda from politicians who don’t want voters to punish them for always making available only bad candidates.
