That’s why I have this account. I only have to break it out once or twice a year, honestly. For the most part out server is pretty stable, but then every now and then, a rare Azorian moss creeps in though the window hosting the server, and begins to colonize. This results in much delicate work, as @ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net and @poVoq@slrpnk.net carefully scrape the moss off the motherboards, using hori-hori knives imported directly from Japan. They then coax the moss onto several 9x13 Pyrex dishes loaded with a home made agar and begin the trek up Mount Pico, to relocate the moss to its natural habitat. This is only done under light or a full moon and with much chanting. If done right, a Satyr emerges from the bushes (erect phallus and all), playing melodic flute music, and thanks them for restoring the nomadic moss back to the wild. After a few moments of awkward silence for both the admins walk back down the slope, wondering what actually just fucking happen, and how this became part of the routine maintenance of the server.
All we had to do was follow the damn train, CJ.

That sub went dark for at least 24 hours after the data center strikes. It’s 0%. Even the idiots on r/Conservative fled to other parts. Just a bunch of flankers in a circle jerk in that sub.

A university course is currently trying out Pixelfed
A few weeks ago, we started noticing a number of applications on pixelfed.ca, where the user would say that they needed to register for a course. I don’t have full confirmation, but I’m fairly certain that this is a legitimate wave of signups from students at a Canadian university.
I’m sharing this post for a few reasons:
Personally, I’m excited that people are trying out Pixelfed and using it in coursework like this. If you are one of the students, now seeing this post, welcome! :) I hope that the project goes well, and that you have a pleasant experience on the platform. Feel free to share any and all feedback.
You might be seeing similar looking posts from different accounts on your feed. My guess is that the course has specific requirements and example templates. However, there’s also plenty of real content (ex. artwork, photography, etc.), so I don’t think it’s going to be disruptive
As always, you can report inappropriate content through the UI. For urgent issues, please email us at support@pixelfed.ca. You can also DM admin@lemmy.ca as there is overlap with our Pixelfed and Lemmy team members.
why did i put this in a single 18 terabyte file
I am also banned from .ml and LateStageCapitalism. Anyone who isn’t insufferable and possesses a functional brain is or will be banned from those wretched hives of scum and villainy.
You’re banned from .ml, !latestagecapitalism and r/Pyongyang.

Add up the wars of the last 40 years in money spent and lives lost. Your favorite Gop are the undisputed champions.
So now it’s 40 years, and not 60? Pretty explicit. The last party realignment was 1968, by the way. Which is why you’re previous pick of 60 was so difficult to defend. I would expect you to know that, because you’re such an informed voter, but I guess I should never underestimate the ignorance of my fellow Americans.
Regardless, in PR it’s important that one plays their role. The Democrats need the Republicans to start the wars in order to maintain their grip on the anti-war vote. The Ds are obviously not anti-war, as evidenced by the fact that they don’t ever reduce the military budget and they never hold Republicans accountable for breaking the law to launch wars. The Democrat stance on war is “well, we have to finish what our opponents started!” That includes genocide against Palestinians as much as it includes launching net new campaigns that were planned by Republican administrations, like Libya.
But we can also look at non-war deaths too. Economic sanctions from the US have killed way more than wars have. The research published by the Lancet showed an average of 800K dead per year for the last 50 years. Bi-partisan consensus in those sanctions, by the way. Way more devastating than wars. And sanctions kill children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the sick way more than war does.
And before you ask, the solution is ending the USA entirely.

Personally I think the Internet is extremely good, and it is television that is bad. The Internet only got bad when people from The Television moved in and started using it.
@mcc the Internet is good ... I don't think it's only the tv people. I think it was the monetization part. Accessibility brought in a lot of people that wanted to use the internet as an appliance which drastically shifted the culture. There's plenty of room on the Internet for that, but where they landed is important. Being beholden to FB now meta for content that was feeding them what drove engagement to serve more ads and hoover up more data. Ads and data brokers are the real evil imo.

@tnoisette comme si le besoin avait disparu…
LOLOLOL. Apparently each Lunar Starship now requires *22* Starship tanker flights. That means you'd need to launch the world's largest rocket once a day for *more than three weeks* before each landing. And there's never three solid weeks of good weather on the Gulf.
All this is because 1) Musk forced SpaceX to propose a lunar lander that's way too big because he wanted NASA to fund his Mars fantasy, and 2) Starship has way less performance than advertised, due to requiring much heavier structures and heat shields than the initial optimistic design. This is at least partly due to its garbage aerodynamics, because Musk wouldn't let them optimize the shape.
In other words, Starship ain't never gonna land on the Moon. Not in '28, not never.
@simonbp remind me how many rockets it took in 1969...
