@thetyee probably the only good thing to come out of this election. I can only imagine what she could've done with even a minority coalition agreement with the NDP.
A long time supporter of the fine arts, the French government distributed thousands of mobile blank canvases for aspiring abstract expressionists!

@joao Ya!
When I'm coaching/mentoring students I make a big effort to learn their names because it feels like a safety issue. It's quite hard when there are more than a dozen of them and I only see them a couple hours a week.
The other big challenge for me is professional contacts I see once or twice annually at conferences.
What do you have on the other side of the flashcards? I feel hesitant to ask people for their photo.
I can get photos from the yearbook.
If I didn't have that I'd insist on taking group photo on the first day of class I think. I need to know all of their names somehow.
We called and there are *so many* authors participating. I have never gone through an automated phone directory that had multiple pages. We ended up listening to Monique Gray Smith (local fave) and Kai Cheng Thom
Today's #Muppets GIF of the Day is...
I only see the parents once a year and really hope they don't think I know all of their names. Good lord. They do tend to introduce themselves with "I'm Bobby mom" (THANK YOU)
Although... sometimes it's obvious that it's Bobby's mom.
I don't know why people worry their kid won't grow up to be just like them.
@futurebird tbf they named us and should know
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that Static Site Generators are FUCKING AWESOME.
Jekyll, Pelican, Hugo, Sphinx, MkDocs, Zensical. Whatever, pick one; they're a honkin' great idea. One of the better ideas we've had in the last 20 years.
oooh, this is so cool, you can see the marcescence in the autumn leaves in infrared! Healthy leaves are bright pink, while withering leaves are golden-yellow, as they reflect less IR.
The last photo is an un-edited crop directly from the camera, you can see how most leaves are more blue than pink. The blue channel of that camera captures just IR, while the others capture IR + their respective colour, resulting in more blue -> more IR. #photography #infrared
I really like internet memes, and this one definitely made me smile 🙂
It probably overestimates my role and should encourage more people to support open-source projects, particularly @thephpf, which handled the two recent critical security vulnerabilities exceptionally well by preparing patches, including for older, unmaintained versions, and by communicating with package maintainers in the distributions (like @ondrej and me), and by providing information to users.
I also picked up this book from the local book store today. Looking forward to reading this one, as it is written by a local author from up island, not far from where I grew up. <3

Plant Teachings from My Auntie
Gathering Coast Salish Plants for Medicine, Textiles, Nourishment, and Ceremony
A Snuneymuxw ethnobotany guide grounded in Indigenous knowledge and deep ancestral connection to the land.
Plant Teachings from My Auntie is a richly illustrated compendium of culturally significant wild foods and herbal remedies found within the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. This powerful work serves as a rare treasure for those seeking to foster cultural understanding and ecological responsibility while deepening a commitment to meaningful reconciliation. Central to these teachings is the fundamental protocol of honoring gifts from the land by gathering and preparing them in ways that respect history, spirituality, and Indigenous knowledge.
Through the guidance of Snuneymuxw Elder and Knowledge Keeper Geraldine Manson (C’tasi:a), readers are introduced to Snu’y’ulh—teachings handed down through generations, specifically those passed to her by her “Auntie Ellen,” Dr. Ellen White. From the sacred Western Red Cedar, known as the “tree of life,” to detailed descriptions of 65 different species, this guide bridges ancestral wisdom with practical botanical identification.
Do you think people get that I'm gay and like birds or do I need more pins
@shinmera Love the "Attempted murder" and "Have you tried screaming" ones. The rest are nice too but those made me smile. And never enough pins while the weight is manageable.
