A re-run of last years release stream for "The machines are having fun". Don't miss the end. There will be something special.

Yeah, his name is literally “db0” because he’s on the dbzer0 instance. Guy’s a creative powerhouse. It had to have been him that banned us because the one other listed mod hasn’t been active in a few weeks.
Lemmy’s great, but it’s unfortunate how many popular subs are moderated by a single basement dwelling sad ass powertripping loser. They kill a significant portion of this platform for anyone that doesn’t want to slurp their shit up.
And yeah, I’m about to hit my 2 year mark on Lemmy and I can confirm that all these losers are coming from the dbzer0 and ml instances. They are a blight on the Lemmiverse. Same vibe I used to get from /r/conservative and /r/The_Donald. Just pathetic losers.
Yeah, I think Lemmy can be great, but there’s a non-zer0 percentage of users here who are too self righteous and condescending to talk to. You have to wonder if they ever talk to anyone outside of lemmy. Some of them seem hellbent on destroying American democracy. And then some people are just viciously rude. I started liberally blocking users, communities, and now an instance. It improves the experience a lot. I don’t know what the percentage of absolutely impossible users is, but it’s higher than I would’ve guessed. It’s like everyone like that who came here from reddit decided they still needed the conflict and vitriol so they just recalibrated to direct it at people who slightly disagree with them whereas they probably used to direct it at Nazis/conservatives.

The Britannica entry for the Fediverse is really good
It isn’t that surprising but it is somewhat surprising.

Is there any way a bunch of us could, like, go in on an alternative to Cloudflare? Like, a worker-owned co-op DDoS protection service?
@bstacey tbh, crawler ddos protection is, imo, reasonably practical like this. Other kinds of ddos? Much less so.

"Unethical" vaccine trial on babies backed by RFK Jr. is formally canceled
The decried trial was canceled last week before police seized vaccine doses.

The right-wing owners of Scientific American, once the pillar of science writing, have ruined the publication's content and reputation. An incredibly sad situation: https://www.thenation.com/article/society/scientific-american-springer-nature-trump/
@dangillmor it was ruined in 1995. This is not news. Until 8-9/years ago American Scientist (from the Sigma Xi society), had the torch for well written cross science communication, but then...
