we should start using the real word again, Das Ragenbaiten.

Please just stop it!
This week in #InfoSec
These guys, doing their own stunts, in old movies were wild.
OpenAI's latest AI models are coming to Google Cloud and Antigravity
Google Cloud will have GPT 6.1 Astra, Sol, and Luna in the coming weeks.

For Google the win is the same racks getting billed more hours. A model people want on Google Cloud keeps its GPUs busy, and busy GPUs are what pay for the buildout. Idle ones don't.
^^^^^^ the protest non voters are part of why so many Ukrainians are dying, why Israel has stronger and more deadly weapons, why climate change just got massively accelerated, why research funding and USAID got gutted (including life saving vaccines and children’s cancer research). some many of you will die but not me so that’s a price I’m willing to pay.
If you’re going to not vote out of protest maybe don’t do it in the most impactful election of our lifetime.
SECURITY ADVISORY: musl libc up through 1.2.6 (present version) is affected by integer overflows in regcomp (regular expression handling) leading to insufficient allocation of heap-based buffers for the compiled regex data structures.
CVE-2026-107891 has been assigned for this issue.
It’s not a protest, it’s a surrender.

We should start with a national, general strike.
but honestly, some of those bugs and errors that people are now suffering from are embarrassing even for me
"what do you mean you set your private key to the number 4?"
"what do you mean you built a network of large language models capable of acting on their own and didn't set up a heavily restricted and monitored environment and they now hacked a bunch of websites?"
this isn't merely "our testing wasn't exhaustive enough" or "we didn't predict this unlikely event would happen", these are both fails on most basic measures that most other software developers and information security newbies would tell you is a bad idea
i don't think we should shackle ourselves into a world where you need a certificate to write programs or where every segfault is a $1000 fine, but the fact that really big companies are doing this kind of bullshit means that there are eventually going to be enough angry people who would want put something like that into law, and they'd treat the (otherwise reasonable) response of "what you're about to do will break the tech industry and open-source software specifically" as irresponsible fearmongering
back in the 1990s, a lot of people were very afraid of violent video games -- sure, a lot of these were puritan social conservatives and folks ignorant about gaming that they'd treat cartoonish violence in the first "mortal kombat" as if it were a realistic depiction of gore or completely misunderstand the point of "night trap", but the prospect of children being able to buy a game with blood and gore and perhaps even titties in the same place they'd buy mario and sonic was extremely scary to them
a few of the politicians even raised an idea of governments running some kind of censorship board -- granted, it would always be a farfetched idea given that the u.s. and most of europe protect free expression of ideas, but the gaming industry took the idea seriously and instead set up their own controlling bodies that would figure out which games should be sold to which age groups without meddling from politicians (and given how much politics change or how different things can be seen in more left- or right-leaning parts of any country, probably a good idea)
it also was, in practice, an entirely voluntary system that only applied if you wanted to sell your video game in retail stores, not blocking the amateur/indie game scene and leaving any future technologies, like digital distribution, open to interpretation
i feel like we're at a point where something similar should perhaps be happening with certifying software safety and security response practices, but at this point i'm pretty sure that if microsoft, apple and google were to raise the idea of some kind of self-regulation board that would also allow open-source devs to keep doing their thing, a lot of people would say "we don't trust you" for some very good reasons
recommendation for tomorrow:
no one touch ANYTHING
@foone unfortunately in making sure the PHP stuff I realized some old sites are running really old versions of WordPress that use PHP 5.6 (luckily either the server host or CENTOS are backporting security updates for 5.6), and in trying to update things I realized I have to renew SSL certificates, here’s hoping LetsEncrypt at least has their head on straight
The dumbest thing is how we still haven’t done anything close to what France and other countries are doing to actually make their voice heard. Won’t change my mind. Yes, you should go vote. You should also overthrow the government.
Yup.
Selective hearing. It’s insane how often people complain about Dems not doing something when it’s literally part of their party’s policy platform and has been for a while.
Or how often I see someone complain about something the Dems aren’t doing when it’s something their party or their president literally passed or signed an EO for. People just don’t pay attention. And then you list out the bills or EO’s in question and they move the goalposts and cry harder to compensate for their inability to pay attention.
Do they need to do more? Duh. Do they actually get stuff done? Yeah, they actually do. And compared to the other party that only works in opposition to Americans, they technically get infinitely more done than their opponents.
It’s a combination really. Of Dems not being good at messaging and people just not fucking paying attention.
