Checking with my boyfriend to see which computer chaos news has broken containment of Mastodon. He hadn't heard of "4” but now has the impression that it has become 6/7 for computer folks.
If you’re using today to promote your workalike clone of a php app written in a “safer” language it tells me you’re really not understanding just how shaky these various pieces of foundation-level technology truly are, bottom to top.
Systemic issues do not get fixed by individual acts.
you know it's a bad day in IT when @rysiek gets quoted in the Guardian
My Worst tech purchases as a Linux user (and in general): hardware & software !
KDE is firing on all cylinders, Brave says they're the best browser, CERN moves to Debian
More Office Suite drama, Chrome downloads AI model without consent, Plasma 6.7 things - Linux News
Gentoo has the new PHP out (8.3.36 in the regular configuration but 8.4.27 and 8.5.12 for users who track testing.
Did a search for Ivory on the iOS App Store. Surrounded by Canadian Tire and Wendys ads. Yay App Store.
Why did I search for Ivory for Mac on iOS? Because I haven’t woken up yet this morning.
@todd This could be the picture for the dictionary definition of #enshittification
@davidrevoy Love it. Hopefully the book will be available in the UK.
@thirstybear Yes, I'm studying a service of print on demand that writes they deliver to "200+ countries", so I guess UK will be part of it. I'll know more details soon, and I'll try to post on the blog and here an announcement.

By the time you figure out how temporary everything is, it's too late.
TPUK tried to shut down a drag queen story hour and so a bunch of queers showed up to try to keep it open.
Turnout of patrons was low and TPUK showed up late to intimidate people on the way out. To be clear, the people they showed up to intimidate were mums with prams.
But like, their leader had a megaphone and was laughing about an antifa person who had been neaten up or been in "an accident" or something, which was definitely a violent threat.
Anyway, fun times. Horrible thugs.

Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior John Mastodon?
@mm lol
These projects get a lot of criticism. Why, and is it deserved?
Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter:
Ever feel like the days drag on but the years go by quickly? You might be on Mercury. There, the time from sunrise to sunrise takes ~176 Earth days, but a year is half that, ~88 Earth days.

Hello, we heard everyone has been having a great time with security releases so we're doing one as well. Here's v0.22.3 of #GoToSocial aka Shrubbiest Sloth Ever:
https://codeberg.org/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/releases/tag/v0.22.3
Release highlights
- Bump required Go build version to v1.26.10 to mitigate CVE-2026-111943 by distrusting select intermediary authorities so server admins (and docker users) don't have to update ca-certificates themselves (see https://github.com/golang/go/issues/82348).
- Fix an issue in the dereferencer where remote accounts could masquerade as other remote accounts with sneaky URL shenanigans. Thanks to @elise for reporting this.
⚠️⚠️ We recommend everyone running GoToSocial update to this release at their earliest convenience. ⚠️⚠️
For everyone already on v0.22.x it's a simple update with no migrations or config changes. For everyone below v0.22.x, see the release notes for migration instructions.
Thanks! Sorry! Thanks!
